Right now, my players are in Vallaki and have shown some interest in future session going to visit the nearby Vistani camp.
I used the Plea for Help adventure hook in the beginning, in which one of the Vistani (namely Arrigal who lives at the previously mentioned camp) gave the party a fake letter to draw them to Barovia.
The party will recognize Arrigal, and I am not yet sure how I want to play the cunning Vistana in response. I could either have him genuinely not remember the party (he probably has done this trick for Strahd many times before) or he may just feign ignorance. Or, he might actually recognize the party as well and either hide or try to play the "my old friends" angle.
I was wondering how other DMs who had used the Plea for Help adventure hook chose to handle this encounter. If possible, I'd like to make sure that the party doesn't immediately try to kill Arrigal for revenge the moment they see him.
Ideas or input?
