Ok, so I am running a 20th level campaign where the adventurers must defeat Vecna before he becomes a God. I have most of the dungeon mapped out, and I want there to be a room that is kind of like a party room (with powerful monsters and confetti and exploding barrels). I was thinking of having 2 Balors, 2 Remorhazes, with some Brown Mold on the floor. (Maybe one of those Fungi that look like a beholder for fun). There are also a bunch of exploding barrels (with confetti to lightly obscure the area). Would this be too hard for a party of 5 20th level adventurers?
Hi! This is my favorite encounter calculator: https://dhmstark.co.uk/rpgs/encounter-calculator-5th/ I use it for everything! I would also consult your DM's Guide if you want to number plug how much you can do in your whole dungeon, assuming 2 short rests. But I just plugged it in and it says that just 2 Balors alone would be Deadly... I did 1 Balor and 1 Remorhaz and it was a "Hard" encounter! Not sure what the challenge rating Brown Mold is, but maybe that's a bit better balanced, especially if it isn't the boss room.
It's kind of hard to say without knowing the party composition, how experienced your players are, and how powerful their magic items are. Some parties are creative and well-coordinated, some are not. Some players optimize their builds, some don't. CR levels and such are just rough estimates.

I love the idea of confetti-filled barrels, as though the Balors were staging a surprise birthday party for Vecna.
