I was curious if there was a discord where a bunch of DMs go on and chat amongst each other bouncing ideas off each other and talked about their campaigns.
I have been playing D&D 2002 (start of 7th grade) and have been a DM for the past 2 years now and would love to talk with others.
These forums are great but I like voice over text, imo.
I think a general gathering would be tricky. In a regular "realspace" meeting room, groups can form off of the main gathering and have their own little discussions, then mix and match. It's like the conversations at parties.
That's not easy to do on Discord, where you can't really get any "further away" - everyone hears everything all the time.
What might be possible, is a seminar style online meeting. Pick a topic, have someone give a short presentation about how they handle the topic, and then throw it open to moderated general discussion.

The biggest problem with voice chat is that it's (usually) synchronous, meaning everyone has to be present at the same time for a discussion instead of people chiming in when they have time.

Exactly this.
I have a hard enough time juggling what I want to do already. I do not want to have to schedule anything more. In fact, although I am a Gen-Xer, studies have shown Millenials and later generations hate to be tied down to a synchronous system. A BBS or forum like DDB is the best option for me.
With several separate voice channels for DMs to drop into and talk about ideas is easy to do , with supporting text channels.
...
Simply put , if anyone wants this set up ... and is unsure .. i can chuck a discord up in an hour.
It is absolutely technically possible to do.
I''m not trying to naysay this - just kicking the idea around, and seeing it's benefits, limits, and how to improve it :)
How is this setup any different than having multiple servers?
The organic nature of a human gathering or social event means that you can have little clumps of conversation (which correspond here to your voice chat/text couplet ), and still keep one ear (subconsciously - which is why you're able to detect it when someone in another group drops your name, even if it's in a crowded room of talking people ) on other conversations, which allows you to interject into that conversation, merge that conversation with your own, or switch discussion circles. I suspect that our subconscious brains are monitoring for keywords, or keyword clusters, which would indicate "hey, you might be interested in this conversation as well".
This is absolutely how Forums and BB systems work as well; you can monitor, and participate, in multiple conversational threads at once. It allows you to discover and join interesting conversations already in progress.
I think multiple, segregated voice/text conversational threads would lack that organic discovery, multi-threaded conversation feature. I would have to commit to a conversational channel, at which point I have no means of monitoring other channels for interesting keywords. Which means I might as well be on a small server with the people in channel and I've lost the multi-thread discovery possibility of Forums.
There are some real bleeding edge things you could try, and might be fun to play with technologically, like real-time transcription of other conversations scrolling by in other windows to the side while I'm participating in this conversation, setting up "keywords of interest" to have the system monitor other conversations for ( a PITA, if I have to create/maintain that list manually ), etc. - but for a crowd that might be having issues setting up Discord servers to begin with, that's teleporting before you can walk :)
In short - technically possible - but loses some of the main strengths of realspace conversations and/or asynchronous Forums - at least at this stage of the technology.

Woohoo! Gen-Xers with Millenial attitudes toward technology, represent! :D

I really like this idea. I'm am pretty new to DM-ing but I would really like to hear, give, and discuses ideas.
i also really like the idea of a seminar style of meeting. it could make some really cool things happen.
having something like this be set up would be a great thing and if anything does start up would love to be kept posted.

Then from this its fairly easy to both meet other DM's , put text details , images etc into your voice channels supporting text channel.
