Hello all new DM here just started Lost Mines with a group of friends. I highly encouraged some of them to come up with some back stories and character concepts for there own characters and a few of them took kindly to them. I had them choose a few outlying cities such as neverwinter and water deep for where there possible back story can take place and give me a few npc names to work with. A lot of them gave me a basic skeleton of thier backstory and are leaving future backstory to me. I have lots of possiblites in my head of what i want to happen but i would love to know what you guys use to keep character backstory organized. I would love to use the Dm notes private on dnd beyond but I personally cant organize it and i dont want to add it to their character sheet as they can just see possible enemies and npcs. Thanks for the help and sorry my thoughts are a mess.
I use the online google sheets for my planing and managing of backstory and plot progression.
When my players learn a new thing about their chars it is their responsibility to add it to the ddb sheet.
If they fail to do so, depending on the situation i consider that their chars didn't understand or forgot something. But for very vital information a char would not forget so easy i remind them from time to time
