All my life, I have been fascinated with boss battles in video games. I love bosses in d&d, as well, so I try to create them as often as possible. I am designing a tier 1 dungeon with a chaos/elemental theme. I need some ideas for a final battle at the bottom of a cavern/maze complex.
Could always have 4 chambers corresponding to elements. A room that floods with water, a room full of lava, a room that has a wind tunnel or perhaps electrified and a room with boulders or stone pillars that fall from the ceiling. Translating the mechanics from the video games you like would work too. Each chamber could have an elemental orb correlating to the element of your choice and then they could be used to open a door, but instead of opening a door they summon a greater elemental that changes its form every round. Each of the orbs could light up predicting the element it changes to next.
Could go full Fifth Element on it, the boss is a large elemental that seems to embody all four elements (some parts of it are fire, some water, some stone, some comprised completely of air...maybe call it an Omnimental?), because of this it is immune to all 4 of the elements it is comprised of, and attacks from non magic weapons. The creature could have some legendary actions where it can block damage with it's stony portions (on reaction to attacks), move without AOO (using fluid form or separating [air]), or emit an AOE of fire damage (5 damage or something depending on player level). The players would then have to figure out that their are four Stones placed around the room (maybe even hidden) that they have to destroy or activate (depending on if you want the creature destroyed or contained). As they activate/destroy them the creature becomes progressively weaker.
Edit: The only thing I stole from Fifth element here was the idea of the elemental stones you are activating, presumably by feeding or removing the presence of the element.

Early Tier 1? Late Tier 1? Just "Tier 1"?

These are some great ideas. I have a name for the wierd multi-element monster: paraelemental
Seems pretty good.
