Like many during this time, I am back at home with my family. The usual game that I DM has moved online and my family has become intrigued by what they have overheard. Any recommendations for introductory oneshots for a DM + two new players?
Note: One of my family members will be into roleplaying, but the other is used to more traditional board games and may be hesitant.
might as well run a whole adventure, if it only lasts a session so be it, just try to time it so there is a climactic battle near the end of your session.
dont really know where to find one shots. You could try to make one yourself though.
Well, The Lost Mine Of Phandelver is a pretty good starter, but you need 4-5 people. If you can find a workaround for that, it's a good choice for starting players. Quarantine resources has a few one-shots that are good for low level players. I haven't played most of them, so I can't say how good they are. If you can't find something published, make you own! All you need to make a quick adventure, is a few goblins, a old cave, and some stolen supplies or the like.

Five percent of the people think; ten percent of the people think they think; and the other eighty-five percent would rather die than think.
An intelligent man believes only half of what he hears, a wise man knows which half. (Even Esar)

Here is a rough outline of something I just did (family friendly, and for some an introduction). In this case, I went with a version of a scene that I hoped they would eventually recognize.
Spoilers:
The chase scene from Princess Bride:
The party (2-4) at level 1-3 starts around a table, they are just waking up
they are dressed as pirates, but their memory is hazy.
on the horizon they see their ship being towed by a larger ship.
May determine they were drugged, perhaps by something odorless and colorless
There is a nearby abandoned pirate camp, used very infrequently
they can search and find some basic weapons and armor
on a great roll, perhaps a hastily buried potion of healing
They remember they were pursuing something
They see large tracks leading out of the camp
They get to a rocky path
a rock smashes nearby and an ogre steps out "I didn't have to miss you know."
This can be a combat or RP encounter depending on what the party choses.
I had the ogre low in initiative
They continue to 1-2 swordsmen
there is a plank going across the ground
gouts of flame occasionally erupt
There is a small chest behind
In it, are some gold coins and a note, telling the swordsmen to continue to the cave once they have dispatched pursuit, use the word inconceivable
A small cave in the woods.
Include a simple trap
Have a pair of giant rats (rodents of unusual size)
have a flying kobold sorcerer shouting "inconceivable!"
Note the room he is in is sandy, so view it as lightningsand/quick sand for added dramatic effect
Put whatever clue in the chest you want !
