I tried using the search function of the forums and it said there was no results for "loot table" "loot tables" "loot" "table" or "tables" I'm pretty sure something's broken there.
Anyway - I was wondering if there was a comprehensive list on which books have loot tables in them? Or, for that matter, is there a better way to generate random loot from most/all sources? I own all the books, I'm just too damn lazy to peruse every one of them trying to find tables.
I am absolutely terrible at deciding what to offer my adventurers.
HALP!
Thanks in advance for your time and any help that you can provide.

Please, for the love of the gods, tell me how am I to balance DnD with the family and my son's travel hockey? HALP!
I just want to clarify - I do know there are tables in the DMG and I don't need to know exact locations of the tables, just looking for which books have them, or which online resources I can use for random generation. Thanks, again.

That'll work, for sure. Thanks! I think once I've gone through the tables a few times I'll be a better DM and have a better idea of what's suitable for different levels and whatnot. I'm afraid to make my character's OP, but at the same time I want to reward them with cool stuff - seems like a tough balance for me, but maybe not?

Do you use any of the dungeon generators from that list? I like to customize, but it'd be good to have a solid base. To each their own, sure, but I love to get feedback from actual people rather than archived responses on old posts.

The donjon site is fun (for me) to experiment different sizes, themes, etc. D&D 5e >> random dungeon generator. I actually ending up using a "tiny" random dungeon it created exactly as laid out but just changing up monsters being bugs/bats/beasts/undead only, but it was incredibly useful in reminding me that each room / hallway should have details (smells musty; warmer; dark; random or disturbing graffiti to build up edgy tension), dead ends, a theme/history, everything else just Bam already doone, leaving you with more time & effort to do the real important heavy lifting like your advwnture's story and allows for creativity to fill in your blanks for other things (like why has dungeon been undiscovered?). Actually, more I think about it, the donjon site has been very useful for me in other random generators like the treasures, NPC name generators ... so far as my personal advice for giving out magic items, go light and infrequent for the first 5 levels, common/uncommom

Wanted to add that the "Weak Magic Item" site can add some fun/interesting items that aren't generally O.P. but add nuances and unexpected items (especially trinkets) that are situational and require attunement
Right on, this is exactly what I was looking for. I found donjon a while back, I just completely forgot about it. I always worry about being too bland with my descriptions/descriptors, so that is very promising to help coach me. I certainly look forward to checking out the "Weak Magic Item" site - Sounds like it's something right up my alley.
Again, I truly appreciate your time and input on the matter.

Good luck and have fun. Happy to help in any small way possible. As a last note, never be afraid to just roll off of the d100 trinkets table at the end of Ch 5 PHB, quirky, nonmagical items. But if you're looking for more random roll tables on the great world wide web, just searching for "random [blank] generator" ought to get you quite a few results to browse from... especially NPC names, tavern names, which are a huge help if in a pinch at the table and need a quick name in the heat of the moment (could also be fun to ask a player the roll a d100 on your behalf??). Best wishes

“In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbithole, and that means comfort.”
