My family is having a really hard time in Ravenloft because of all the undead and the amount of detail searching in it. So as the DM I am going to use a Coatl to 'teleport' most of them out of there. ( One kid wants to make a new character to try ). I haven't been a dm very long so that is,the best I could come up with to get them out since Ravenloft isn't supposed to be escapable unless you reach the end.
What do you guys think of my way to quickly get them out? Do you have other suggestions?
Strahd gets bored of them? Strahd gets nervous and decides to get rid of them without wasting too many minions? Baba Lysaga teleports them out (she's basically a very powerful hag, so that's not really all that hard to imagine as possible), possibly because she's worried about them killing Strahd?
+1 to Strahd getting bored and kicking them out. However, I feel like he would more than likely just kill would be heroes that he gets bored with than merely allow them to leave. Especially if they have been a thorn in his side or stood between him and a certain lady-someone.
Another suggestion: Have the players become close to any of the Vistani? They can come and go as they please. If one of them likes the players enough, they could be willing to risk Strahds disfavor and carry them through the mists.

Esmeralda D'Avenir is Vistani. She can lead the party out through the mists.
Strahd may let the party go if they helped him obtain a goal. Have Strahd offer passage out if the party will help him locate Von Richten. That's makes the party pay a price in blood for their escape.
I think this would be so much drama that I love it.

Because I tricked my players into going to Barovia (and didn't want a revolt) and because the only way out in the adventure as written is to kill Strahd, I decided to add an extra way out that doesn't require killing Strahd, but is dangerous and morally dubious, this adding to the ambience of Curse of Strahd.

In Castle Ravenloft there is a room called the brazier room (K78) where people can toss a coloured stone into the brazier, and touch the coloured flame to teleport to other places in Barovia. I added a twist. Since we know there was an architect of the castle, and we know there is a model of the castle in the Amber Temple, I changed the story a bit so that Khazan (the wizard who worked on the castle, and who built the tower that Van Richten uses on Lake Baratok) is the architect who designed the brazier room. When he designed it he included a failsafe that would allow him to teleport home whenever he needed to because he didn't trust Strahd. Strahd doesn't know about the failsafe. My players found notes about it left behind in Khazan's tower, including a note that he was moving to the amber temple and taking the model with him. The PCs are currently in the amber temple looking for the model because they want to try to escape from Barovia without having to kill Strahd.
When they find the model of the castle, inside the model is a miniature of the brazier room, and written on the miniature of the brazier in archaic draconic are the words:
"Bones of the young and a sacrifice of magic to open the portal home."
To escape Barovia the PCs will need to travel to the brazier room and toss in a magic item, and bones from a child. They can get those bones without having to harm any children by going to the hag's windmill and collecting some from the floor, or even just by tossing in a dream pastry, since those are made with the bones of children. If they can get to the brazier room without encountering Strahd, they can potentially escape Barovia without having to fight him, but to do so they will have to do something morally repugnant to any good creatures (using the bones of children) and will have to sacrifice at least one magical item. The flame/portal will only be open for a short time, and the two iron golems will attack, sensing that something is wrong and that the PCs are trying to escape Barovia, so they will have to fend off the golems long enough for each person to touch the flame before it goes out. If they escape, they will also do so knowing that they left the people of Barovia at the mercy of a deranged monster, when they might have been able to destroy him and set the people of Barovia free.
