feeling around it is just a wall not an illusiory wall but something is bothering you that you can’t quite figure out. Until you start to trace the engraved writing on the wall. The characters that you can feel carved into the stone don’t match the words you are reading.
points to Time Curtin - when you cast decipher languages it reads " The Candle Makers Word Of Warning"
@cozmo yeah the one thing you can't prepare for is how people are going to choose to interact with a puzzle, definitely rethought things on the fly with responses
the runes are not in a language you recognise even with your +5 intelligence and natural 20. You do however(due to your wonderfully high roll) notice there is dust of a similar colour to the edging of the tiles on the floor where it meets the walls in front of those areas.
Comprehend languages on the runes?
I try and move the tiles.

You place your dagger inbetween a tile and with little effort it comes loose, you attempt the same on the other 9 nine tiles and they all proceed to come away for a small amount of work.
you lay them on the floor and between using your cipher and comprehend languages you see they read
Dark, Light, Heat, Cold, Wood, Water, Wind, Time, Fear & Air
I feel like there's more to the phrase than just providing a key, though, so my Knowledge Cleric activates Knowledge of the Ages and learns everything there is to know about the art of candle making, or chandlery, as we experts call it.
Great now we have to hear about candles for the next hour. I’ll cast darkness on a copper piece and walk around the room to see if anything happens (This class is awesome, I have literally every spell)
when placing the tiles around the outside you notice that the star has groves that fit the tiles perfectly when placed in them. There are a total of 5 grooves in the five points of the star, so far your combinations have done nothing
Roll an investigation check
another natural 20!

I take out my parchment and charcoal (components pouch) and take a rubbing of the wall to see the real characters.

dam it thinks what i am trying to post is spam :(
will attempt it as part of other text and see if that works "ᛏᚺᛖ ᚲᚨᚾᛞᛚᛖ ᛗᚨᚴᛖᚱᛋ ᚹᛟᚱᛞ ᛟᚠ ᚹᚨᚱᚾᛁᚾᚷ" fingers crossed
I pull out my arcane focus and cast Comprehend Languages...

I’ll ask gaspode if I could take a look at the rubbing and I’ll cast comprehend languages while holding it.
by the way, I love the idea of play testing like this lol.
Its a cipher for "The candle maker's word of warning" among other possible answers

I am going to make an assumption about the question that is about to follow up from that realization, the ruins on the carved triangles are
ᛞᚨᚱᚴ
ᛚᛁᚷᚺᛏ
ᚺᛖᚨᛏ
ᚲᛟᛚᛞ
ᚹᛟᛟᛞ
ᚹᛁᚾᛞ
ᚨᛁᚱ
ᚹᚨᛏᛖᚱ
ᛏᛁᛗᛖ
ᚠᛖᚨᚱ

Good job!
Your cleric becomes an expert in candle making and starts to browse the carved candle section on Etsy

I move the tiles over to the pentagon with triangles around the edges to make a star.
I have 5 triangles leaving the pentagon for the points
And the last 4 are 1 short of a pentagon on the inside.
The triangle pointing to:
Lit candle no smell put the triangle that reads light
Lit candle that smells of the sea i put the tide
Lit candle that smells horrid i put the one with fear
Not lit candle with mist i put water
Not lit candle i put darkness

inside pentagon:
The wood and fire triangles so they meet at the light
The air and water so they meet at the tide

Also there are 10 tiles not nine and it is Time not a Tide ;)
