First some backstory. Me and my friends have been playing 5e about 5 months ago. We play about once a month right now. For the start of this campaign everyone picked different backgrounds and goal and really only meet each other on a boat trip. They have made some enemies while traveling through a capital city and have headed to one characters family mansion. I'm getting ready to have a big war break out next game and the characters to get sent across the world map. I've spend the last 5 games getting this villain set up, so all the characters have a common enemy and different reasons why they are against him. My plan is for them to get sent to a far off small town, so they can become heroes instead a group of people who are wandering around. This brings me to my question. What are some adventures that start in or around a small town? They can be for any edition and any level 1-6.
Storm King's Thunder has an intro to get the party from 1st to 5th level. If you start them at 2nd level or higher, they should be all right, as long as they don't do anything stupid.
Lost Mines of Phandelver has Phandalin, Princes of the Apocalypse has Red Larch, and Storm King's Thunder has Nightstone (followed by one of three larger towns). All are good adventures with stuff to do to get adventurers to level 5+. My vote goes to Phandalin, which probably best integrates with your idea. Plus you can get it reasonably cheap.
