Hello I'm a relatively new DM, I've run a couple adventures for my friends but none have dealt with extreme weather. We're planning on running the new Icewind Dale adventure. From what I've read it's pretty straightforward. My main question has to do with characters that need to use cold weather clothing to endure the environment.
How does wearing the gear affect wearing armor? Are there any restrictions or can armor simply be worn over the clothes?
I appreciate any insight and thank you in advance.
I believe this is one of those things the wise DM simply winks at and moves on. It's probably likelier that they'd be worn over the clothes than under, but either way, if there are no restrictions specified, just don't worry about it.
Indeed, clothing generally has no effect on armor, regardless of impracticalities. You are free to declare that southerners think the warriors of the north look like furballs stuffed in a can, but even if one wanted to be all specific about thcker clothing leaving gaps in armor it balances out in that other parts of the body would be much better padded, to a net effect of no change in AC.
Thank you for the insight. My group typically follows the rules, with an occasional homebrew here and there. I'm personally not huge stickler when it comes to these kinds of rules, I just couldn't find any info on the subject.
