If i used the title of "Exarch" for an NPC in a campaign - as a political position - does anyone think it would throw players who are familiar with that category of Forgotten Realms deities?
Just to be clear - they would be completely unrelated. I just thought it sounded cool for a title.
I mean, if you have players who are like hard core Forgotten Realms players, or you set your game in the Realms, you're inviting the misundering but can clear that up with a metagame word to the group. It shouldn't stop you from avoiding it.
It is a cool sounding name, basically means appointed executive, so could be like your game's Darth Vader. They decide how they do it, but the orders are coming from higher up.
Also invites the term ex-exarch if foiled by the PCs.
