It's mostly there for flavor. If the group heads to one of these locations, they'll be a working mine and smelter. Even the Realms needs industry. Consider them safe locations for the players and not a loot infested plunder-fest. However, if you want to test your might at a little homebrew action, perhaps to add some magic items the group may need, they can be a great jumping off point. Make your mine adventure and insert it when they reach their first mine.

I purchased Tomb of Annihilation online, and on the map it has mine locations mapped. Are these in the book? I can't seem to find their location?
There's only one. I think maybe the other mine markers are to trick people into thinking they are that one.
