Good or bad isn't really for me to say, but "as essential as the literal plushies canonically possessed by my players" seems like a low bar to clear. I'm not sure we've split the DMPC atom here, yet. I'd continue to exercise caution.
To clarify: the DMPC is the owner of the plushies that the PCs possess, and has a TON of wool that could help in case a bunch of stuffing falls out since if there isn't any stuffing for too long, the spirits will properly go to the afterlife.

Oh, hi, uh... I do commissions; all of the stuff related to it is linked here: all da info :>
Also, the plushies can't technically move on their own, but the spirits can(if they go under a really complicated spell that is the equivalent of summoning a demon or something) move around, as long as they stay within ~50 feet of the plushie, otherwise, the plushie gets grappled over to the spirit ~10 feet away, and that is REALLY dangerous, due to a thing I mentioned in my last post.

I think I have implemented a DMPC in the best way possible: making them as essential as the plushies characters possess.
...You may be wondering what I meant by the second part of that sentence. Basically, the characters literally POSSESS PLUSHIES canonically.
Is it good? Is there a better way? Let me know.
Thank you for listening to my TED talk.

Huh?
Enjoy my magic items, spells, monsters, my race, and a few feats. And GIVE ME FEEDBACK... or else.
Like what I say?
⬐ Just press this little guy right here.
Is this a fever dream?
I mean ... you can say that. You just did and all. I don't know if you'll be understood, but no one stopped you.
Jander Sunstar is the thinking person's Drizzt, fight me.
If they have possessed plushies then they aren't DMPCs, since they are entirely controlled by the possessing PCs.
So effectively you have players who are playing PCs who are possessing NPCs?

Sir or Madam, it would seem I owe you an apology.
You don't need to give me an apology, as I didn't completely explain it. Also, this is an actual thing on the LFG/LFP forum.
