Hi guys! Old guy here from 1st Edition. I'm getting the band back together for an old school tabletop campaign. I've just ordered the PHB, DMG, and MM books. Those and The Hoard of the Dragonqueen and the Rise of Tiamat are in the mail. I plan on starting our campaign on Super Bowl Sunday with a nice character creation session during the festivities. Really excited to get back in the groove. I need some advice.
I wanted to use Beyond as a replacement for maps and miniatures. Marching orders. Room placement. Keeping an eye on that pesky rogue who always runs out front. I was hoping to incorporate Beyond in this fashion. Setting up the Flatscreen and perhaps getting the others to bring laptops or just keeping a laptop available for them to access.
Now I want to keep this analog. Players with their character sheets and rolling dice but like I said, for the keeping up with maps and minis I'd like to use this program. Which digital items should I purchase for this? I presume I'll need a subscription. No biggie. I'll buy the Tyranny of Dragons package. Hoard of the Dragonqueen and Rise of Tiamat. Will I need the Core Rulebooks as well or do those come with the subscription? Help a old man out.
Just looking for some feedback as I'm a little nervous and if I can keep the cost to a minimum that would keep me out of the doghouse with the Old Ball and Chain.
Unfortunately DnD Beyond can't really do the maps and minis thing--it mostly serves to replace the books and the character sheets right now. Roll20.net is probably what you're looking for--that's a virtual tabletop system, and you can buy the adventure there that'll come with maps, minis, and such.
Thanks so much. I figured Beyond would have been more proprietary about the whole thing but I see that the Tyranny of Dragons campaign is available for 50 bucks. Will just have to look into it. Thanks again.

Thanks ahead of time.
