I am having a bit of trouble trying to find where to best fit this particular Sub-class.
I am devising an OCC, where the players uses incantation spells via the use of exhaled smoke (cigar, tobacco pipes, hookah, etc.). The effect of the spell is either a combination of enchanted dried herbs and tobacco (sometimes, also in teas, of they chose), sometimes along with spoken word with such tobacco, depending on the expected results.
Each "spell" or effect, as it were, is more tied to the tobacco itself; which means, instead of studying for the daily spell(s), the character would need to carry an array of pouches and pipes (or cigars) for the spells they wish to cast. The spells are only limited to the amount they have, and are space/time effectiveness. Most, if not all, spells are based on area effect , with projectile aiming in progression.
Being that the focus of the spells are that of smoking (or tea) actions, who best fits this description? Alchemist? Herbalist? Tobacconist? Wizard? Sorcerer? Druid? Ranger? This style of spell crafting seems to be all over the map and trying to nail it down a little more. Any advice?
I see that more of a flavoring of the character's spellcasting, so I wouldn't restrict it to a "type of spellcasting" but my initial thought would be a druid or herbal based spellcaster.

Yeah I agree. Druid or ranger would work. But of course you can flavor your spells into anything.
It does sound that you might not want to be a full caster. So you can also look at 1/3 casters like AK fighter and AT rouge.
A interesting way to flavor a class would be going wildfire druid and your fire spirit is made of smoke and the "torches" are made of smoke instead of fire.
Hmm, interesting way to view those ideas. Thanks, guys. I may delve into that a bit more. Herbal based spellcaster seems doable, but somehow mixing that up with the Wildfire Druid might be a way to mix it up a bit.
I was pondering that OCC as not being a full caster, but perhaps something which can be muddled into other professions...but that may get confusing, and keeping it simply to a type of caster might be best. At most, perhaps a caster, who needs to be dexterous, as he will be switching out pipes and such.
My first thought would be Alchemist Artificer, replace the experimental elixir with herb mix of the day and you are good to go. (While at it, remove the randomness.)
Tweak a few of the class spells, replace the extra damage with disadvantage on Con saves for the target and so on.
You know...after watching a clip on this from XP To LEVEL 3, I think this might be the most logical route to go with, considering one of the sub-classes to Artificer is Alchemist. I am guessing Herbalist would fit more into this category too. Thanks.

I could also see an Artificer subclass that focuses on the use of an Herbalism Kit as a spellcasting focus for empowering/changing spells
