So I'm making a pc that is a warlock born from chaos magic and nightmares, also he speaks through telepathy. The visuals of this character are 7½ feet tall non-descript fae like face that's wears a porcelain mask to not terrify people. My question is being the character. I want to create suspense and tension. Any tips or ideas for somewhat funny interactions. Also to have them thing I'm an evilman even though im in fact a goodman.
An idea I had was l leave every evening and go to bad parts of town to help the innocent home or carry an umbrella in the rain, but it always comes off as horrifying.
1. Have some humor and a very weird accent, example have him have a deep voice and such but say's things like, "Ah, the greatest liquid substance there is! alcohol!" or "I like candy" or a tiny voice but with a vile under tone. "I will gut you till your body limps down by itself!."
2. Have some class be suave, a evil man disguised as a good person will want to pretend to be classy or be classy in general, seemingly looking like he looks down on them but also works around the law and such in round about ways. "Hmph, you should be blessed that I Voivode Callahan am teaching you how to fence with the bladed rapier! That way you will learn to build your pride!" (A person was dared to fight you one on one, ends up as a fencing lesson when the person is not so great, and your seemingly helping them save face.)
3. Have some wit's, in political intrigue this works best, outsmarting both your enemy and DM in situations where you can't just act rashly. "We are mercenaries but we are merchants first and foremost, so if we fight against them, its because its an act of self defense!" (A group of mercenaries pretending to be merchants and pretending to not join the battle while doing business, reasoning that if any mishap happen its self defense in the enemy territory while working to spy on the enemy lines.)
4. Have some giggles, randomly laugh at situations whether it is going bad, or good, or just all the suddenly laugh because you where thinking of something funny.
5. Have some terror, you may already know this but have your character be terrifying but with good intentions.
6. Have some communication disorder or simply cut short words, cut your sentences short and make situations where it requires context to fully understand what the character is trying to convey. Eg. While pointing at the baker he says in a deep and raspy monstrous voice, "I - I Want - - your - . . . . . . ." A slight pause as his mouth extends with a terrifying hungry smile, fingers shaking pointed at the baker, continuing saying a little cutely. "I want your grande strawberry flavored bread and coffee please."
I’d also recommend using an ominous alias. I had a player who did exactly this and was known simply as “The Detective”. Also carry a box with a dead animal in it but don’t let anyone know what’s in it. Also, occasionally pretend something didn’t happen or that you didn’t see anything. You can wake up one day, pretend you have no memories of anything, wake up the next, and pretend like nothing odd happened the previous day. Another idea is to say something creepy to one person and then pretend nothing happened.
