Hi Folks -- DM here wondering if anyone has a good alternative to the RAW monetary cost for a wizard to copy a scroll into their spell book.
I understand the requirement exists as a structural obstacle to balance & pace a wizard's acquisition of spells. I'd like to maintain that balance if possible. But I'm finding it's creating more of a structural need for the players to acquire gold than I'd personally prefer to service in the campaign I'm running.
I've read suggestions that include allowing players to harvesting scribing materials (ink, quills, etc) from monsters, which is a cool idea, though not as smooth/simple-to-understand as the RAW gold requirement. I've also seen people discussing the risk of a wild magic surge for each copying attempt. Those are both really smart ideas. But I figured I'd do a little more diligence to see if anyone out there has any house rules around this that they really enjoy.
Any thoughts?
