I was wondering if I could get some feedback on an idea I had for a new race, and possibly class (that would be used for the race).
What does everyone think about making a race based on an augmented individual from the Deus Ex universe?
I was thinking about making the race based on converting the cybernetic augmentations into D&D versions (active camouflage becomes invisibility, eye augments become perception boosts, skin augments become AC boosts, etc.). I was thinking about starting a character off with a set amount of upgrade points to choose augments that they would want. Further level ups would give more upgrade points.
My biggest obstacle would be for someone who would want to play as a mage. I can get behind the idea that the person is a cyborg and could say that the organic parts of the body are able to use magic, but I'm worried that they would be really overpowered.
I see the conversion into 5E as a feature of character levels, rather than character class. When the character earns an Ability Improvement, rather than take the improvement or a Feat, take the Augment. Keep the properties/power balanced. For example, at Level 4 , you decide to give Orakl the Monocular Implant augmentation. With this augmentation, your character gains Expertise in Perception. You add +5 to passive Perception rolls, and gain dark vision 60'.
Another augment might be Binocular Implant, in which both eyes are augmented. You do not suffer the penalty for long ranged weapon attacks, and you gain the property of Hunter's Mark without having to cast it as a spell. You can use this feature three times per short or long rest.

Any feedback is appreciated.
This is an interesting idea....

Stuff like that. Happy adventuring!
Hrm... this sounds less like a race and more like a class. Or subclass. Possibly a variant of the Artificer, or that crazy Inventor wizard school
