Hello everyone! I am new to D&D Beyond, and I am looking for help with creating a new, homebrew world with it. I really don't want the same old stereotypical, fantasy world. If you guys could help me come up with something original, but still be considered fantasy, then I would greatly appreciate it. Any ideas and criticisms would be welcomed.
My first thoughts are taking what is considered a standard D&D world, which has its origins in Tolkeins's Middle Earth, and doing something unique. Perhaps the world has elements of sci-fi (Warforged) with something else weird and new. I definitely could see an post-apocalyptic world, but also something totally different like Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory mixed in with Star Wars and Steampunk.
Okay, throw me some ideas and maybe a way to start. I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.
Where to start: Read, read up on the Greyhawk setting, read up on the Eberron setting, read up on the lore of the worlds that have become cannon to the D&D universe.
I created a world called Loromir, I knew when I started that I wanted a "young" world, a place where magic, the fantastical creatures and races, as well as the impact of the gods was fresh. I also knew that I wanted a world where magic wasn't some ephemeral thing like air, instead I wanted something tangible, so in my world arcane magic stems from a viscous liquid held in a pool hidden away and guarded. Lastly I wanted to make sure it was still within the universe that was already created by D&D, so the gods and devils were all held over from all the previous worlds.
Those bullet point ideas helped me flesh out the world, and continue to help me craft how the world works now that the players are mucking about.

Thanks DMThaco0! I am old enough to remember using THACO! :)
