While this isn't homebrew, I don't know where else to put it, I'll repost if need be though
I'm creating a wizard that can't cast spells, but instead uses potions, what creative effects would you use for different spells? (Example: instead of casting fireball, a dragon's head replaces his hand for a split second)
This seems similar to the artificer class, who don't 'cast spells' in the traditional sense: they tinker with gadgets (or potions for alchemists) to create the desired affect.
I see where you're coming from, and I think spell re-flavoring can be super cool, so I'm surprised this wasn't quick to get responses. I play bards almost as often as wizards, so I often think of how they would cast a spell, let's say Thunderwave. A wizard might wave a wand or swing their staff, but a bard is more likely to play a deafening rift on their lute. Thinking of unique ways for difference classes to cast the same spells make them feel more authentic.
A few ideas...
For Fog Cloud, uncork a gaseous, misty potion
For Haste, drink speed-boost elixir
Etc; etc; there are tons more self-affecting spells that you can just re-flavor as a potion. Spells that affect others, like Geas, are more tricky. But maybe that's just a lack of creativity on my part.
Yes, exactly. Stuff like that is what I'm looking for. A piece of info I accidentally left out was that each time I cast said spell it's a different effect so if you have multiple ideas it's encouraged!
For stuff like Fly or Haste (Already mentioned) I was thinking I could sprout wings or drink a elixir that overworks my body til my blood boils (literally)

Glad I could help out. Nice to know I interpreted your post the way it was meant.
