I'm planning on homebrewing a 2024 version of the haunted one background from the Curse of Strahd: character option. I need help on which origin feat would fit best with it, or maybe some ideas on a homebrew origin feat. Comment below on what origin feats you think works best and your homebrew origin feat ideas.
Alert: A Haunted One may be more on edge and jittery, leading to them being quicker to act and less prone to getting surprised if they always suspect something is around the corner.
Magic Initiate (Cleric): Particularly for Curse of Strahd, if the haunted came from an undead monstrosity coming at them then perhaps they'd have doubled into holy magic as a way to get prepared. Kind of similar to how Buffy in Buffy the Vampire Slayer wears a lot of crosses due her to fighting against vampires despite not being hugely religious.
Skilled: The Haunted One comes with a monster hunter pack. Specialized equipment. So Skilled makes sense as a compliment to that with them having thematically studied up on the various skill they'd need in their quest.
Tough: Just based on the idea that if they survived whatever horrible thing happened to them, they're pretty tough.
From the homebrew side, I would think you'd want an effect based around fear. I would say something like advantage on savings throws to prevent or end the Frightened and Charmed conditions might fit what you're looking for.
Seconding what Vistus said with skilled and/or one of the magic initiates. For a homebrew feat, maybe something rangeresque? To go along with the vives that the monster hunter's pack gives it.

I feel like these are top candidates.
