In 3rd edition of D&D Wish used to cost 5,000 experience points to cast. In 5e, it instead has chance to lose access to the Wish spell. I was thinking that creating an Epic Boon would be a way to restore the original cost.
Boon of Fortified Wishes
Epic Boon Feat (Prerequisite: Level 20, ability to cast Wish)
You gain the following benefits.
Ability Score Increase. Increase your Charisma or Intelligence by 1, to a maximum of 30.
Fortified Wish. When you cast the Wish spell, the stress of casting the spell is reduced. If you cast a spell before a long rest, you only take 1D6 damage per spell level and your Strength score is not reduced below 9 if it is higher. Finally, you cannot lose the ability cast Wish.
The main purpose was to exchange the chance to lose access to Wish for 30,000 experience points to take a feat after reaching level 20. The reduced damage and reduced impact on the character's strength were thematically in line with reducing the stress of casting the spell.
I set the prerequisite to level 20 so that it was less likely to be the first Epic Boon for the character. This can be bypassed by multiclassing and taking class level that grants a feat as your 20th level.
I considered, not including the ASI, but wasn't sure if bonus warranted excluding it.
I also considered requiring an increased cast time (1 minute to 1 hour or more) in order to benefit from the effect. The reduced damage and reduced impact on the character's strength were thematically in line with reducing the stress of casting the spell.

Funnily enough, you’d lose access to Wish if you tried this by multiclassing into a martial
You’d be fine if you went into a third-casting subclass or multiclassed with a half/full caster, though.

Well, it's not so much that you would lose access as that you would never have access to it. 16 levels of a full caster and 4 levels of a One Third Caster or better would allow access to 9th level slots. Although the examples in the Multiclassing section suggest that you would be limited in spells prepared by your levels in the individual class, the restriction in the classes is by spell slots (which are determined by the multiclassing rules).

I would allow wisdom to be increased in case any third party classes or subclasses give druids/clerics/other wisdom caster wish.

yeah that’s kinda what I said
It is partially rephrasing, but also adding one-third casters (Eldritch Knight, Arcane Tricksters) into the mix.
