So my DM said he planned on giving each player at our table a magic item that can level up as we progress through game, like the Vestiges of Divergence from Critical Role. He asked for us to give a template or a general idea for the item he would make for us. My character is a Horizon Walker Ranger and since we Rangers tend to get the short end of the stick when it comes to class features I focused more on improving one of my sub class features, Planar Warrior, and the idea I have for the weapon towards the end is to also pull from some of the Pathfinder V1 Horizon Walker features as well. He even sent me a link to use as a reference. Anyway here is what I have so far, I know it is a lot of flavor text but I felt it important to describe how the weapon gets it's power.
Bow of Endless Horizons (Revised) Requires Attunement by a Horizon Walker Ranger The Stave of this bow has a black lacquered finish and intricate silver engravings that all connect to a silver plate that has been inlaid in the bow just below the grip. There are 9 small inlaid crystals in the plate and are intricately placed with engravings connecting the crystals to the engravings on the Stave of the bow. Designed to look like a star radiating light, there is a larger orb shaped crystal in the center surrounded by 8 shard-like crystals, each of the shards have engravings in the silver plate connecting the center crystal. The crystals in this bow have the ability to absorb the energies of the echoes of the Material Plane (Feywild and Shadowfell), the Transitive Planes (Astral Plane and Ethereal Plane) and the Inner Planes (Plane of Fire, Plane of Air, Plane of Water and Plane of Earth) and is able to store up to three different types of energies at a time. Each energy type bestows unique power to the wielder of the bow. The shard crystals each represent the 8 planes' energies this bow can absorb. When a crystal stores its plane's energy it changes color and emits a dull glow. In order to activate one of these crystals you must spend at least one week in their corresponding plane. The center crystal only activates when the bow has absorbed a massive amount of Planar energy from one of the eight planes' energies it can absorb. In order to activate it you must not only have one of the other crystals activated but also slay a powerful foe native to that plane, absorbing the power that resided in said foe. Doing so will further augment and increase the powers bestowed by the corresponding crystal. If the center crystal is activated, it will change the appearance of the bow based on which plane's energy it is storing.
While attuned to this bow your Planar Warrior ability no longer requires a bonus action.
When this bow stores one energy type it gains +1 to its attack and damage, and it increases that bonus by one for each type of energy stored bringing its bonus up to a +3.
When the center crystal is activated, once a day and for a duration of 1 minute you can add an extra 1d8 of force damage to your Planar Warrior ability and you are able to apply that damage to all attacks made each turn. This ability recharges at dawn each day.
I apologize for the wall of text, and I know over half of it is flavor text, but I would just like some feedback on if I have made this too busted or if I can word any of this better. I am leaving the effects, if any, each plane crystal would have to my DM and if you have any feedback for that as well I would appreciate it. I am not expecting to get this item at least until I am close to level 10 and we are level 6 now so I still have time to get this right. If this plays well I would like to have it for players the next time I DM, thanks again for any feedback.
