Howdy folks, I need help creating a blood hunter subclass that gives just the biggest middle finger to enemy spellcasters and magical creatures at early levels, and then at 15th - 20th level range, using magic against them is either a waste of time or the worst thing you could do.
- General subclass idea: Centuries ago, at one of the most prestigious magic academies in the world, a bunch of students had become infected by a mysterious sickness that steadily spread throughout the school. Initially, people believed it was just a bad fever, but students began dying, and all traces of magic in their bodies were robbed from their corpses until one day a monster manifested from this black miasma that tore through the academy and killed dozens of spellcasters, and with each subsiquent mage killed the beast grew stronger as it feed upon their magic. The collective blood hunter orders were called to slay this beast, and with much loss of life, they were successful. The academy wanted all traces of the beast eradicated, but a small handful of blood hunters collected traces of that monster for their own purposes.
After much experimentation on the collected traces of the now dubbed "Spellbeast", a far more controlled version of the original disease was made, and the order of the Spelleater was founded.
- I wasn't satisfied at all with the Profane Soul in being the anti-evil mage/warlock class, so I wanted this subclass to be far more flavored for killing mad mages and granting the player some warlock-like features along the way (aka Eldritch Blast, Eldritch invocations, etc)
List of abilities ideas (Not much of an order, just potential abilities I imagined for this subclass):
- Can devour spells and reflect them back at the enemy.
- Can shoot out clouds of black, smoky, poisonous miasma as an attack that gets stronger alongside PC level.
- An aura of anti-magic that makes it either impossible or very hard for beings to use spells and magic in general.
- Perhaps by spending a use of their blood maledict, the blood hunter could manifest their own mini spellbeast companion to help them in combat.
- Higher level ability to merge with their mini spellbeast companion and become an absolute nightmare for any mage or magic creature to deal with.
