i couldnt find a thread to post this on, cause i was lazy and didn't look for longer than thirty seconds. but anyway.
a while ago i had an idea for a barbarian subclass. it would be sort of like a way upscaled version of the spell Blaze Of Glory. basically everything within like between 200-300 ft(idk the exact range) takes massive damage, like idk, 40 d20s, or something. that might seem totally overpowered, but there is a major drawback. usually if your character dies, you can just ressurect them through various means, right? well in this case, everything killed by the blast cannot be brought back through any means. spells cant do it, they are not in any underworld/afterlife, and the Wish spell cannot bring them back either. plus it would also have some other stuff, cause a subclass cant just have one thing. it'd be like energy building up in the character, and they can use some of it to do certain things. but if they let it build too long, there's like a complication, like with downtime activities. i was thinking i'd call the subclass Blaze Of Glory, and the ability Second Sun. what do y'all think?
(i cant be the only one who wants my characters to die in an epic roleplay moment, right?)
i could use ideas, feedback, etc

Great idea, I like the concept of a barbarian that has more ranged potential or splash damage, since they always seem to target one creature and kill it rather than being a horde breaker. :)
Problems...
Does this damage the barbarian themself? If so, then why play a subclass that dies immediately upon using their ability? However, if they don't take damage themself, then the party won't need to enter the dungeon because the barbarian alone could defeat the boss. 40 d20s is an average of 420 damage, enough to one-shot almost anything in dnd.
Also, in every campaign I've been in, people who die just make a new character. At low levels, you don't really the option to revive people, how would you?
And finally, you know how some people are really good at finding loopholes? This could break dnd if they do. Like, what if the party wizard just teleports everyone away, and the barbarian is granted temporary immunity the type of damage this spell does?
This has potential though. Maybe decrease the range and power to something more reasonable, and add a more realistic drawback like health draining.
