My name is Xander, and after a long time of just watching D&D content on this and other platforms, I've decided to publish my first post - a homebrew I've been working on in my free time over the past few months. I'd like to point out right away: although I've read the community guidelines, please point out any errors you spot.
What is this homebrew? It's my reimagining of the paladin class, driven by both gameplay and narrative considerations. On the one hand, I wanted to move away from burst gameplay, making the paladin more of a bruiser than a second (extremely durable) rogue with an alpha-strike. On the other hand, I wanted to redefine the vibe of the class, transforming it from "chosen* of the gods" to "one whose will and determination grant them access to supernatural powers", much like rage does for the barbarian or inspiration for the bard.
(*This narrative doesn't prohibit you from becoming a Chosen or force an atheist path; it simply makes religion less mandatory.)
Within this document, you'll find a description of the full class and all traditional oaths. Some have been revised more significantly than others, for example: The Oath of Glory has been split into two distinct oaths; The fate of a fallen paladin has been divided into the following paths: - Redemption (the corresponding narrative has been added to the classic description of this path); - Survival (a revised treachery oath from the UA); - Blackguard (formerly Oathbreaker, taking into account the prestige class from 3.5).
This is version 1.3 of the document, the latest version at this time. I'm still working on balance, and there are still some areas that bother me (in particular, the Smite spells. But I'm deliberately not wanting to push my rework toward the 2024 version, where even the basic Smite is a spell. So, I'll continue to think about this issue).
Thank you for your attention, I welcome discussion and constructive criticism.
I quite like this. Making Divine Smite not based on spell slots is a very fun idea, and tying it to the resource used for Lay on Hands helps with balance. Very well done.

I tried to go to the drive, but it says I don't have access. I would really like to see it, so if you can fix this issue, that would be great!
I forgot to change the document's access settings, what a mistake! Thanks for noticing, everything should work correctly now.
