Herbertologiiktantar is a Red Dragon Wyrmling who is often refered to as Herby by the family who raised him. His egg was stolen and then hatched from the clutch of Themberchaud, an overweight Red Dragon whom the Duergar of Gracklstugh have imprisoned, by the Human Alchemist Lord Heydan Seegil of the Menzoberranzan House Vahadarr without the knowledge of the city of Gracklestugh or the dragon's biological siring through the advent of Alchemy! Raised as part of an experiment the Alchemist kept the wyrmling on a psychotropic regiment curbing the young dragon's hostile temper without depriving the creature of their free will. For a time, this worked but eventually the gullible Alchemist who took such pride in hatching the first non-aggressive red dragon lost his entire Alchemical conglomerate, fortune, and his menagerie of lab experiments including Herbertologiiktantar when he married a then extremely low ranking noble of the city of Menzoberranzan Lady T'zarah, Matron of House Vahadarr. The city arranged this marriage to entrap the alchemist who both proved himself too valuable to be killed as well as impossible to enslave and imprison by normal means. Escaping the evil clutches of the city cost the alchemist everything and in his absence the Lady T'zarah has removed Herbertologiiktantar of their free will by getting the wyrmling thoroughly addicted to various alchemical substances. The dragon believes these substances enhance his power far beyond those common to other red dragons of his age. However, the dosages at which these substances have been pushed on the dragon have left it no option but to habitually continue to ingest them in order to remain alive. This is a fact the wyrmling has only just become aware of when he last saw his human "father" during an altercation with his drow "mother" before he fled their family once more. In that brief encounter he made reference to the dangers of the dosages the dragon was ingesting and how the dragon would need to be weaned off of these substances or the results could be fatal. Not entirely sure of what was being said Herbertologiiktantar has only just begun to secretly develop a passion for alchemy and experimentation having been told by his drow "mother" that he needed these substances because of his human "father" experimentation on him as a child before she took over his care. The wyrmling has recently started dosing proven successful substances on himself in the room Lady T'zarah has arranged for him inhibiting his desire to seek out his own independent lair. Otherwise, the dragon rarely does much of anything other than recreationally imbibe various intoxicants in an endless pursuit of pleasure. This libertine habit has left the dragon mostly pacified as they would more than likely try to enjoy some mind and body-altering substances with someone than try to hurt them assuming they have such illicit goods on them, know where to find them, or Herbertologiiktantar himself is currently in possession of these items. Despite being one of the most peaceful even tempered red dragons he is still a red dragon and will use the nature of his species to intimidate people when his addictions require it but generally, he does not endorse this behavior finding acts of aggression to sobering ruining his high. As such he is almost as inclined to help good as well as evil so long as they bring substances which can be abused.
Lair and Lair Actions
Despite being so young Lady T'zarah of the Menzoberranzan House Vahadarr spoiled Herbertologiiktantar by providing the wyrmling a "bedroom" in her spire large enough to be their personal lairs removing their desire to seek out their own. The room is roughly a cathedral sized three-hundred-foot cube with a small adjoining one-hundred-foot cubed bathroom. Inside the bathroom there is a large thirty-five foot burning pool of magma accompanied by a large thirty-five-foot cooled swimming pool sized bathtub fed by a waterfall sized shower. Much like the main chamber the bathroom is chiseled obsidian, but the floor is slightly padded by oversized bathmats with positive phrases woven into them such as "You got this!" and "Overcome!" along with other such sayings. The main chamber mostly resembles that of teenager's bedroom with treasures, papers, coins and clothes strewn about the floor. There are various pieces of furniture, often also decorated by random junk, including several bean bags, a royal looking dragon sized throne and of course a large bed shaped like fast a horse drawn carriage giving a glimpse into the dragon's youthful adolescence. Several posters of the eerie disturbing musical performers popular with the teenagers of Menzoberranzan along with a few scantly clade mistresses decorate the walls and a large alter dedicated to Lloth is on prominent display with an assortment of various substances and other intoxicants proudly protected by the evil goddess. Near the alter is an anti-Tiamat poster making a mockery of the dragon queen indicating how deeply the dragon has been indoctrinated by the Drow of Menzoberranzan. There is a balcony that looks down upon the city of Menzoberranzan from the spire opposite the door providing internal entry into the room. On the door is a cheap lock allowing the dragon some modicum of privacy as well as an official looking sign on the outside of the door reading "Private Property" that may have been appropriated illegally and a smaller handwritten sign reading "Get Out!" has been taped to it.
The red dragon’s lair is warped by its presence, creating the following effects:
Burning Heat. The area within the lair is an area of extreme heat. A burning creature or object takes an additional 1d4 Fire damage at the start of each of its turns.
Smoldering Haze. The area within the lair is Lightly Obscured with clouds of ash. Whenever a creature other than the dragon or one of its allies finishes a Long Rest in that area, that creature must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or have the Poisoned condition for 1 hour.
If the dragon dies or moves its lair elsewhere, these effects end immediately.
