The Dragon Priest is a martial half-caster whose body and spirit have become infused with draconic power. Through Aspect Shifting, the Dragon Priest commits to one of three supernatural combat forms: the aggressive Tyrant, resilient Guardian, or supernatural Mystic.
Each Draconic Brood also unlocks a Signature Damage Type. This damage type doesn’t replace the Dragon Priest’s normal elemental options. Instead, it expands those options and unlocks additional Brood abilities.
Your supernatural draconic abilities are fueled by Draconic Favor.
Your maximum number of Favor points equals your:
Dragon Priest Level
You regain all expended Favor when you finish a Long Rest.
Your Wisdom modifier doesn’t increase your maximum Favor.
At 9th level, Draconic Recovery allows you to regain some Favor during a Short Rest.
LEVEL 1: ASPECT SHIFTING
You channel different manifestations of draconic power through three Aspects.
As a Bonus Action, you can enter one Aspect or replace your current Aspect with another.
An Aspect remains active until you change it, become Incapacitated, or voluntarily end it.
You can have only one Aspect active at a time unless another Dragon Priest feature says otherwise.
Emergency Shift
Once during your turn, when you either:
expend Draconic Favor on a Dragon Priest feature; or
cast a Dragon Priest spell using a spell slot,
you can spend 1 additional Favor to immediately replace your current Aspect with another Aspect without requiring an action.
You can use Emergency Shift only once per turn.
This allows a Dragon Priest to rapidly adapt when necessary, but doing so consumes the same limited draconic energy used to power the class’s other abilities.
TYRANT ASPECT
Once per turn when you hit a creature with a weapon attack or deal damage with a Dragon Priest spell, deal an additional 1d4 Acid, Cold, Fire, Lightning, or Poison damage to one target.
Choose the damage type when you deal the damage.
Your Draconic Brood can add its Signature Damage Type to these options.
GUARDIAN ASPECT
You gain +1 AC.
You have Advantage on ability checks and saving throws made to resist being moved against your will or knocked Prone.
MYSTIC ASPECT
You gain +1 to attack rolls with Dragon Priest spells.
You can hover up to 5 feet above a surface using your normal movement.
If you end your turn unsupported, you descend harmlessly to the nearest surface capable of supporting you.
LEVEL 2: SPELLCASTING
Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for Dragon Priest spells.
Spell Save DC = 8 + Proficiency Bonus + Wisdom Modifier
You prepare a number of Dragon Priest spells equal to:
Wisdom Modifier + half your Dragon Priest level, rounded down
You always prepare at least one spell.
Brood spells are always prepared and don’t count against your prepared total.

Choose one of the following areas:
15-foot Cone
30-foot-long, 5-foot-wide Line
Choose Acid, Cold, Fire, Lightning, or Poison each time you use Brood Breath.
Each creature in the area makes a Dexterity saving throw against your Spell Save DC.

Once you choose a Draconic Brood at level 3, its Signature Damage Type is added to the damage types available to your Brood Breath.
LEVEL 2: DRACONIC PRESENCE
As an Action, spend 1 Favor and choose any number of creatures within 30 feet that can perceive you.
Each chosen creature makes a Wisdom saving throw against your Spell Save DC.
Choose one of the following effects when you activate Draconic Presence.
Draconic Dread
On a failed save, a creature is Frightened of you for 1 minute.
While Frightened this way, it has Disadvantage on attack rolls against all creatures.
It repeats the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.
Majestic Awe
On a failed save, a creature becomes Awed until the end of your next turn.
An Awed creature has Disadvantage on the next saving throw it makes.
After making that saving throw, Awe ends.
LEVEL 3: DRACONIC BROOD
Choose the draconic lineage most strongly influencing your transformation:
Chromatic — Consuming Flame
Metallic — Paragon Scale
Gem — Mind Weaver
Ferrous — Iron Tyrant
Your Brood grants a Signature Damage Type and additional features at levels 3, 7, and 15.
LEVEL 5: EXTRA ATTACK
You can attack twice instead of once whenever you take the Attack action on your turn.
LEVEL 6: ADAPTIVE PHYSIOLOGY
When you gain this feature, choose:
Acid, Cold, Fire, Lightning, or Poison.
You gain Resistance to the chosen damage type.
Your choice doesn’t need to match your Brood’s Signature Damage Type.
While at least one Aspect is active, you have Advantage on saving throws against being Charmed or Frightened.
Gem Exception: Gem Dragon Priests gain Crystalline Psyche instead of the damage Resistance granted by this feature.
LEVEL 9: DRACONIC RECOVERY
Once per Long Rest when you finish a Short Rest, regain expended Favor equal to:
your Proficiency Bonus + your Wisdom modifier
You can’t regain more Favor than your normal maximum.
LEVEL 10: GREATER ASPECTS
Your Aspects evolve.
Tyrant — Predator’s Pursuit
Your Speed increases by 10 feet while moving toward a hostile creature you can see.
Guardian — Unyielding Scale
You have Advantage on ability checks and saving throws made to avoid or end the Grappled condition.
Mystic — Draconic Levitation
Your maximum hovering height increases to 10 feet.
LEVEL 11: EMPOWERED SHIFTS
Your Aspects evolve again.
Empowered Tyrant
Your additional Tyrant damage increases from 1d4 to 1d8.
Additionally, when you make a weapon attack while Tyrant Aspect is active, you can declare the attack Draconically Empowered before making its attack roll.
If the attack hits, the Tyrant Aspect bonus damage dealt by that attack must use your Brood’s Signature Damage Type.
A Draconically Empowered weapon attack scores a Critical Hit on a roll of 19 or 20.
If you don’t declare the attack Draconically Empowered, it scores a Critical Hit normally.
Gem Exception: Gem Dragon Priests don’t gain this expanded Critical Hit range. They gain Psionic Tyranny instead.
Empowered Guardian
At the beginning of your turn, if you have no Temporary Hit Points, gain Temporary Hit Points equal to your Wisdom modifier.
Empowered Mystic
Once per turn when you deal damage with a Dragon Priest spell, add your Wisdom modifier to one damage roll of that spell.
LEVEL 13: GREATER BROOD BREATH
Your Brood Breath can now use either:
30-foot Cone
60-foot-long, 5-foot-wide Line
Its cost remains 1 Favor.
LEVEL 14: DRACONIC WILL
While at least one Aspect is active, you are immune to Charmed and Frightened.
If you are already Charmed or Frightened when you enter an Aspect, that condition immediately ends.
LEVEL 17: ANCIENT BREATH
Your Brood Breath deals 5d6 damage and gains an additional Brood-specific effect when a creature fails its saving throw.
Chromatic — Virulent Breath
If the Breath deals Poison damage, the creature becomes Poisoned until the start of your next turn.
If the Breath deals another damage type, the creature instead takes additional damage equal to your Wisdom modifier.
Metallic — Brilliant Breath
If the Breath deals Radiant damage, choose yourself or one ally you can see within 30 feet. That creature gains Temporary Hit Points equal to your Wisdom modifier.
Regardless of damage type, you can push a creature that failed its save up to 15 feet away from you, and it can’t take Reactions until the start of its next turn.
Gem — Mind-Shattering Breath
If the Breath deals Psychic damage, the creature has Disadvantage on the next saving throw it makes before the end of your next turn.
Regardless of damage type, it can’t take Reactions until the start of its next turn.
Ferrous — Crushing Breath
If the Breath deals Force damage, you can move a Large or smaller creature that failed its save up to 10 feet directly toward or away from you.
Regardless of damage type, its Speed is reduced by 15 feet until the start of your next turn.
LEVEL 18: PERFECTED ASPECT
You can maintain two different Aspects simultaneously.
When you first activate this feature or whenever you replace one of your active Aspects, choose which two Aspects are active.
You can’t maintain all three through this feature.
Additionally, once on each of your turns, you can replace one of your active Aspects with another Aspect without requiring a Bonus Action or spending Favor.
This represents your near-perfect mastery over your draconic transformations.
LEVEL 19: EPIC BOON
You gain an Epic Boon feat or another feat for which you qualify.
LEVEL 20: ONE WITH THE DRAGON KING
As a Bonus Action, spend 10 Favor to assume your ultimate draconic form for 1 minute.
For the duration:
Tyrant, Guardian, and Mystic are simultaneously active.
You gain all Greater and Empowered benefits of all three Aspects.
You gain a 60-foot Fly Speed with Hover.
Brood Breath becomes a Bonus Action.
Brood Breath costs no Favor.
You can choose Acid, Cold, Fire, Lightning, Poison, or your Brood’s Signature Damage Type whenever you use Brood Breath.
Your Aspect benefits can’t be voluntarily replaced or ended individually during the transformation.
Additionally, once during the transformation, when you would be reduced to 0 Hit Points, you instead drop to 1 Hit Point and immediately use Brood Breath without spending Favor or requiring an action.
Once you use One with the Dragon King, you can’t use it again until you finish a Long Rest.
Poison is added to your Brood’s unique interactions but doesn’t restrict your normal access to Acid, Cold, Fire, Lightning, or Poison damage.

This feature doesn’t overcome Immunity.
Virulent Poison
Once per turn when you deal Poison damage to a creature using Tyrant Aspect or Brood Breath, you can spend 1 Favor.
The creature can’t regain Hit Points until the start of your next turn.
LEVEL 7: CRUEL MOMENTUM
Once per turn when you score a Critical Hit against a hostile creature or reduce a hostile creature to 0 Hit Points, regain 1 expended Favor.
You can regain Favor through this feature a number of times equal to your Proficiency Bonus.
You regain all uses when you finish a Long Rest.
LEVEL 15: ELEMENTAL CATACLYSM
When you use Brood Breath, you can spend 4 Favor to deal maximum damage instead of rolling its damage dice.
If the Breath deals Poison damage, choose one creature that fails its saving throw. That creature is also Poisoned until the end of your next turn.
Once you use Elemental Cataclysm, you can’t use it again until you finish a Short or Long Rest.
Radiant is added as an option for your Tyrant Aspect and Brood Breath.
Using Radiant damage allows Metallic Dragon Priests to convert offensive draconic power into protection.

When you or another creature you can see within 30 feet is hit by an attack, use your Reaction and spend 2 Favor.
The target gains an AC bonus equal to your Wisdom modifier against the triggering attack, potentially causing it to miss.
Light of the Protector
Once per turn when you deal Radiant damage using Tyrant Aspect or Brood Breath, choose yourself or one creature you can see within 30 feet.
The chosen creature gains Temporary Hit Points equal to your Proficiency Bonus.
This requires no action.
LEVEL 3: GUARDIAN’S INTERCESSION
While Guardian Aspect is active, when another creature you can see within 10 feet takes damage, use your Reaction to move up to 10 feet toward that creature without provoking Opportunity Attacks.
If you finish this movement within 5 feet of it, you can spend 1 Favor to reduce the triggering damage by an amount equal to your Dragon Priest level.
You can’t use Guardian’s Intercession and Ward of the Brood against the same triggering attack or instance of damage.
LEVEL 7: SHIFTING BASTION
Once per turn when you use your Bonus Action or Emergency Shift to enter Guardian Aspect, choose yourself or one creature within 15 feet.
That creature gains Temporary Hit Points equal to:
your Wisdom modifier + half your Dragon Priest level, rounded down
While it retains these Temporary Hit Points, it has Advantage on saving throws against being Frightened.
Only one creature can retain Temporary Hit Points from this feature at a time.
LEVEL 15: AEGIS OF THE KING
When you or another creature you can see within 30 feet would be reduced to 0 Hit Points, use your Reaction and spend 5 Favor.
Instead, the creature drops to 1 Hit Point.
It gains Temporary Hit Points equal to:
your Dragon Priest level + your Wisdom modifier
It can immediately move up to half its Speed without provoking Opportunity Attacks.
Once used, Aegis of the King can’t be used again until you finish a Short or Long Rest.
WINGS OF THE PROTECTOR
2nd-Level Abjuration
Casting Time: 1 Reaction, taken when you or another creature within 30 feet takes damage Range: 30 feet Components: V, S Duration: Instantaneous
Reduce the triggering damage by:
2d8 + your Wisdom modifier
If this reduces the damage to 0, the protected creature can immediately move up to 10 feet without provoking Opportunity Attacks.
Higher Levels: Damage reduction increases by 1d8 per slot level above 2nd.
PLATINUM SANCTUARY
5th-Level Abjuration
Casting Time: 1 Action Range: Self Components: V, S Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute
A 20-foot Emanation surrounds you.
You and allies inside have Resistance to Acid, Cold, Fire, Lightning, and Poison damage.
An affected creature that starts its turn inside gains Temporary Hit Points equal to your Wisdom modifier.
Once during each of your turns when an affected ally takes damage, you can move up to 10 feet toward that ally without provoking Opportunity Attacks.
Psychic is added to the damage types available to Brood Breath.
Unlike other Broods, Gem sacrifices some physical and martial benefits in exchange for exceptional control and utility.

LEVEL 3: PSIONIC TYRANT
Your Tyrant Aspect’s additional damage always deals Psychic damage.
Psychic Intrusion
Once per turn when you deal Psychic damage to a creature through Tyrant Aspect or Brood Breath, you can prevent that creature from taking Reactions until the start of its next turn.
LEVEL 3: PSIONIC RESONANCE
You can use Psionic Resonance only while Mystic Aspect is active.
When a creature you can see within 60 feet succeeds on an Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma saving throw against one of your Dragon Priest spells, you can spend 2 Favor to force it to reroll the saving throw.
It must use the new result.
Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until the start of your next turn.
LEVEL 6: CRYSTALLINE PSYCHE
You don’t gain the damage Resistance normally granted by Adaptive Physiology.
Instead, you gain Telepathy with a range of 60 feet.
You can communicate telepathically with a creature you can see within range if it understands at least one language.
You retain Adaptive Physiology’s Advantage against being Charmed or Frightened while an Aspect is active.
LEVEL 7: AMETHYST STEP
While Mystic Aspect is active, you can use a Bonus Action to teleport up to 30 feet to an unoccupied space you can see.
You can use Amethyst Step without spending Favor a number of times equal to your Proficiency Bonus.
You regain all free uses when you finish a Long Rest.
Afterward, each additional use costs 1 Favor.
Because Aspect Shifting now normally requires a Bonus Action, a Gem Dragon Priest must choose between shifting Aspects and using Amethyst Step unless another feature allows otherwise.
LEVEL 11: PSIONIC TYRANNY
You don’t gain Empowered Tyrant’s expanded Critical Hit range.
Instead, while Tyrant Aspect is active, once per turn when you deal Psychic damage to a Large or smaller creature, you can move it up to 5 feet to an unoccupied space.
This movement doesn’t provoke Opportunity Attacks.
Your Tyrant damage still increases from 1d4 to 1d8.
LEVEL 15: SINGULAR MIND
You gain Resistance to Psychic damage.
While Mystic Aspect is active, use a Bonus Action and spend 4 Favor to become immune to Psychic damage for 1 minute.
The immunity ends immediately if Mystic Aspect ends.
While this immunity is active, when a creature:
deals Psychic damage to you; or
forces you to make an Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma saving throw,
you can use your Reaction to deal 4d10 Psychic damage to that creature.
You can deal this retaliatory damage no more than once per turn.
CRYSTALLINE THOUGHTSPIKE
2nd-Level Enchantment
Casting Time: 1 Action Range: 60 feet Components: S Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute
One creature makes an Intelligence saving throw.
On a failed save, it takes 3d6 Psychic damage and becomes psychically linked to you.
Once per turn when the linked creature makes an attack roll, ability check, or saving throw, you can use your Reaction to roll 1d4 and subtract the result.
The creature repeats its Intelligence saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the spell on a success.
On a successful initial save, it takes half damage and isn’t linked.
Higher Levels: Initial damage increases by 1d6 per slot level above 2nd.
AMETHYST SINGULARITY
5th-Level Transmutation
Casting Time: 1 Action Range: 120 feet Components: V, S Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute
Create a 20-foot-radius Sphere of psionic gravity.
The area is Difficult Terrain for hostile creatures.
Whenever a hostile creature enters the Sphere for the first time on a turn or starts its turn there, it makes a Strength saving throw.
Failure: 4d8 Force damage and it is pulled up to 15 feet toward the center.
Success: Half damage and no pull.
A creature can take this damage only once per turn.
As a Bonus Action on subsequent turns, you can move the Singularity up to 20 feet.
FERROUS BROOD
Iron Tyrant

It makes a Strength saving throw.
On a failure, pull it up to 15 feet directly toward you.
Huge and larger creatures are immune.
Kinetic Impact
Once per turn when you deal Force damage to a Large or smaller creature through Tyrant Aspect or Brood Breath, choose one:
Push it 5 feet directly away from you, or
Pull it 5 feet directly toward you.
This movement doesn’t require a saving throw.
A creature can be moved by Kinetic Impact only once per turn.
LEVEL 7: LODESTONE PRESENCE
While Guardian Aspect is active, the ground within 15 feet of you is Difficult Terrain for hostile creatures of your choice.
Huge and larger creatures are unaffected.
Additionally, when a creature is moved by one of your Ferrous Brood features, its Speed is reduced by 10 feet until the start of your next turn.
LEVEL 15: IRONCLAD JUGGERNAUT
As a Bonus Action, spend 5 Favor to transform for 1 minute.
For the duration:
You have Resistance to Bludgeoning, Piercing, and Slashing damage.
You have Advantage on Strength checks and Strength saving throws.
You can’t be moved against your will.
You can’t be knocked Prone.
Once per turn when you hit with a melee weapon attack, deal an additional 1d10 Force damage.
When this additional Force damage triggers, it can also trigger Kinetic Impact.
The transformation ends early if you’re Incapacitated.
LODESTONE GRASP
2nd-Level Transmutation
Casting Time: 1 Action Range: 60 feet Components: V, S Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute
Choose a creature wearing metal armor or carrying a substantial amount of metal.
It makes a Strength saving throw.
On a failure, it is Restrained.
It repeats the saving throw at the end of each turn, ending the spell on a success.
While Restrained, you can use a Bonus Action to move it up to 15 feet horizontally toward or away from you.
Huge and larger creatures automatically succeed.
IRON DRAGON’S DOMINION
5th-Level Transmutation
Casting Time: 1 Action Range: Self Components: V, S Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute

Choose Attraction or Repulsion when you cast the spell.
You can switch modes as a Bonus Action.
Attraction
Hostile creatures carrying substantial metal treat the area as Difficult Terrain when moving away from you.
Repulsion
Hostile creatures carrying substantial metal treat the area as Difficult Terrain when moving toward you.
Once per turn when a qualifying creature enters the Emanation or starts its turn there, you can force it to make a Strength saving throw.
On a failed save:
Move it up to 20 feet directly toward or away from you.
It takes 3d8 Force damage.
On a successful save, it takes half damage and isn’t moved.
A creature can take this damage only once per turn.
Huge and larger creatures have Advantage on the saving throw.

VERSION 1.5 BALANCE PHILOSOPHY
Version 1.5 is intended to bring the Dragon Priest closer to the expected power structure of official 2024 classes.
Aspect Commitment
Aspect Shifting now normally requires a Bonus Action.
Choosing Tyrant, Guardian, or Mystic therefore represents an actual tactical commitment rather than a free optimization decision every turn.
Emergency Shift preserves the fantasy of rapid draconic adaptation, but doing so consumes Favor.
Reduced Favor Economy
Maximum Favor now equals Dragon Priest level rather than Dragon Priest level + Wisdom modifier.
As a result, low-level Dragon Priests must make meaningful decisions about when to spend their supernatural resources.
To compensate:
Brood Breath costs 1 Favor.
Draconic Presence costs 1 Favor.
More powerful Brood features retain their higher costs.
Signature Damage Rewards
A Brood’s Signature Damage Type is an additional option rather than a restriction.
Players are rewarded for choosing their Signature Damage Type through subclass interactions.
At level 11, committing a weapon attack’s Tyrant damage to the Signature Damage Type also unlocks the expanded 19–20 Critical Hit range.
Gem sacrifices this benefit for Psionic Tyranny.
Tier 4 Mastery
At level 18, Perfected Aspect begins removing the action-economy restriction imposed at lower levels.
At level 20, One with the Dragon King completely transcends it by simultaneously activating all three Aspects.
Does spending a Bonus Action to change Aspects create meaningful tactical decisions without making Aspect Shifting frustrating?
Favor Economy
Does Favor = Dragon Priest level create meaningful resource management?
Do the 1-Favor costs of Brood Breath and Draconic Presence feel appropriate?
Tyrant
Does requiring Signature Damage for the 19–20 Critical Hit range discourage generic crit-fishing while still making Tyrant satisfying?
Chromatic
Does Cruel Momentum become meaningfully valuable now that Favor is scarcer?
Metallic
Does its Reaction-heavy design allow Metallic to function comfortably despite Bonus Action Aspect Shifting?
Gem
Does competition between Aspect Shifting, Amethyst Step, Singular Mind, and other Bonus Actions adequately compensate for Gem’s exceptional exploration and control?
Ferrous
Does choosing between Aspect Shifting and Magnetic Pull create interesting tactical decisions rather than excessive Bonus Action congestion?
Tier 4
Does Perfected Aspect appropriately reward reaching level 18?
Does One with the Dragon King feel dramatically stronger than normal play without making the previous nineteen levels irrelevant?

The Dragon Priest is a martial half-caster whose body and spirit have become infused with draconic power. Through Aspect Shifting, the Dragon Priest commits to one of three supernatural combat forms: the aggressive Tyrant, resilient Guardian, or supernatural Mystic.
Each Draconic Brood also unlocks a Signature Damage Type. This damage type doesn’t replace the Dragon Priest’s normal elemental options. Instead, it expands those options and unlocks additional Brood abilities.

DRACONIC FAVOR
Once during your turn, when you either:
you can spend 1 additional Favor to immediately replace your current Aspect with another Aspect without requiring an action.

Spell Save DC = 8 + Proficiency Bonus + Wisdom Modifier
Spell Attack Modifier = Proficiency Bonus + Wisdom Modifier
You prepare a number of Dragon Priest spells equal to:

As an Action, spend 1 Favor to unleash draconic energy.
Choose one of the following areas:
Choose Acid, Cold, Fire, Lightning, or Poison each time you use Brood Breath.
Each creature in the area makes a Dexterity saving throw against your Spell Save DC.
A creature takes full damage on a failed save or half as much damage on a successful one.

Additionally, once during the transformation, when you would be reduced to 0 Hit Points, you instead drop to 1 Hit Point and immediately use Brood Breath without spending Favor or requiring an action.
Once you use One with the Dragon King, you can’t use it again until you finish a Long Rest.
CHROMATIC BROOD
Consuming Flame
Signature Damage Type: Poison
Chromatic Dragon Priests embody elemental destruction, predation, venom, and overwhelming draconic aggression.

A failed save also causes an effect based on the chosen type.
Acid: AC reduced by 1 until the start of your next turn.
Cold: Speed reduced by 10 feet until the start of your next turn.
Fire: Additional Fire damage equal to your Wisdom modifier.
Lightning: No Reactions until the start of your next turn.

The next time it takes damage of the chosen type before the scar ends, it takes an additional 2d8 damage of that type.
The scar then ends.
METALLIC BROOD

Signature Damage Type: Radiant

The target gains an AC bonus equal to your Wisdom modifier against the triggering attack, potentially causing it to miss.

PLATINUM SANCTUARY
5th-Level Abjuration
Casting Time: 1 Action

GEM BROOD
Mind Weaver
Signature Damage Type: Psychic
Gem Dragon Priests channel telepathy, supernatural perception, gravity, and psychic domination.
Psychic is added to the damage types available to Brood Breath.
Unlike other Broods, Gem sacrifices some physical and martial benefits in exchange for exceptional control and utility.

The creature repeats its Intelligence saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the spell on a success.
On a successful initial save, it takes half damage and isn’t linked.
Higher Levels: Initial damage increases by 1d6 per slot level above 2nd.

Huge and larger creatures are unaffected.
Additionally, when a creature is moved by one of your Ferrous Brood features, its Speed is reduced by 10 feet until the start of your next turn.

The class therefore progresses from:
Commitment → Adaptation → Mastery → Transcendence.
PLAYTEST PRIORITIES
Action Economy
