Thanks for the feedback. Any direction I should take the invocation or just lobe off the disadvantages and call it good? Would adding martial weapons and all armor proficiency be too much? Benefits from the Alert Feat? I don't have a DM at the moment. Just spit-balling would could be reasonable.
There isn't a precedent for having heavy armor without all the other armors, but I don't see anything wrong with it. There is already an invocation for mage armor which is (almost) better than any medium armor anyway, and there are feats instead if that is the way a player wants to go.
Speaking of. How about an invocation that gives additional feats. 2 with level limits 5 and 15.
Proficiency in Heavy Armor, but you have disadvantage on casting spells. Opponents have advantage on saves from spells you cast.
Are the drawbacks too much? Not enough? What would be a good name?
I am aware that Hexblade exists. I was hoping provide a little more flexibility on which patron the Warlock picks, with the appropriate drawbacks.
Not worth it. Invocations are only minor to larger effects. Perhaps something like this:
Eldritch Ward Prerequisites: Hexblade patron, (perhaps add a level restriction, or replace the need for a patron) You become proficient with heavy armor.
You can always try to create a homebrew patron. I would say that if you want a heavy armored warlock you're gonna wanna either get a feat to get proficiency in heavy armor, or make your own patron.

The drawbacks are definitely too much. The fact that it takes an invocation slot is cost enough. And heavy armor has strength requirements.
Hexblade grants medium armor, shields, and martial weapons, not heavy armor.

That sounds good.
Had another idea:
One with the Raven:
Prerequisites: Patron the Raven Queen, Pact of the Blade, and Level 7.
You can use the Soul of the Raven feature and return to normal as a free action. After using this feature you must take a short rest to use it again.
Not worth it. Invocations are only minor to larger effects.

You become proficient with heavy armor.
