Me and a party are setting up for a 1st session and a friend wants a class to let him use shadows themselves as weapons and magic shadow balls, shadow fire, shadow throwing spears and etc is their any home brew that could help him or tips on making his own version of one

I'm sure there are plenty of homebrew subclasses that do exactly this (it is a popular comic/anime power).

But there are also several official subclasses that deal the shadows. The way of shadow monk, the shadow magic sorcerer, the Gloomstalker ranger, the college of whispers bard, the warlock just in general.

Shadow magic sorcerer is probably the best for the theme, especially if you add shadow based homebrew spells (which I'm also sure there are too many of).

Another way is to make a Shadow Monk/Hexblade Or Shadow Monk/Samurai fighter.
