I need help building a homebrew "thing" for on of my players.
The effect is to set the Druid character's CHA to 16 for 1 hour and can be done up to 3 times a day. Outside of D&D Beyond, we have played it like a spell the character can do above and beyond any other Druid spells. It is an ability, not an "item", with charges, though I would be OK if the mechanic had to work that way. This was a "gift" given to the character by a minor member of the Seelie court, so is unique to this character.
Thoughts as to how best to do this? Specifics would be helpful as I am new to D&DB.
Thematically, you could as a spell or feat. However, I don't believe you could make the spell affect the stats on the dndbeyond character sheet. You'd have to remember that their CHAR is 16 when working out any bonuses it gives you. As an example: if a spell gives you resistance to a damage type, it doesn't add that resistance to your character sheet.
If you want to make the "thing" modify your stats on your character sheet, then I would recommend making an item. You could make it an item that requires attunement and give it properties to set their CHA to 16 as well as give them an additional attunement slot. This way they could attune to it when they want the numbers to change while still having 3 attunement slots. This would make it a lot easier to track, as it will change your ability score and all your bonuses.
If you want more help making this then let me know. I could also throw together an item if you want to send me a name/description and any additional details (either on this thread or through private messages).
