Newbie DM here. Love the blend! Brings back the best of 2e. My hiccup is, what does the X5 mean? I've read through it and still can't grasp it. Thanks!
Running for example under athletics. On a successful check, one can add their proficiency bonus x 5 to their total movement when dashing. I think I'm starting to understand it, slowly. Thanks for the help.
Hey everyone, So after having played with this homebrew skill system for a while, I've finally come up with a more streamlined, less complex, and 5e friendly version of it. I have called them skill focuses instead of specific skill proficiencies, changed a few of them, and reworked the rules around them. Let me know what you think (it still needs a little more editing) https://homebrewery.naturalcrit.com/share/HJsWMvBUz
I read the new version. More simplified, and ties to INT better and smoother. I like it! I like that you made it different from expertise - providing advantage on the boosted skill. Also kinda addresses the "all wizards are better at religion than the clerics" -- the cleric might start with Skill Focus in Undead Lore, so while the wizard is rollgin d20+5 (prof+int) and the cleric is rolling d20+1 (int 8, prof), at least the cleric is rolling with advantage!

"X5"? Nowhere on the page is "X5" or "times 5". Can you restate the question?
Sorry about that.

Ah, I'm with you now. The simple answer is "5' squares". so "+2" gives you 2 additional squares of movement, or 10'.
Thank you guys for all the help! Happy gaming
