I'm going to make my first attempt a building a D&D campaign. I've enjoyed playing the published ones and some that my friends have made so far. Does anyone have any advice on the topic of building for a first timer. One piece of advice was to start with the first encounter the party will have. Any other bits would be appreciated!
I'd suggest have an idea of a general theme/setting you want to go with and keep everything focused around that. It helps determine what kind of playstyle you want for your players as well as the type of encounters/NPCs/locations/etc. you want to include. Looking through similar campaigns/stories would be a place to start for ideas. Also, you can take ideas from other sources, but try to put a spin on them to keep things interesting! Good luck out there!
