I'll be DM-ing for my group of friends soon, and I've thought to do either a pre-made adventure or a homebrew urban adventure. I liked the idea of something taking place in a city and subcity environment, as compared to the usual wide-roving adventuring over lands and such. Any suggested resources for homebrews, or even pre-mades that do this?
I'm imagining an opening adventure in this setting that's sort of like detective work, which (cliche) leads to unraveling some bigger mysteries or goings-on in the city.
I'll add this is my first DM, and for the players many of their second adventures. They have 4 new-to-DnD people and 2 very experienced players.
You may want to check out Waterdeep: Dragonheist, it has lots of ideas for city adventures, even if you don't use the setting or the overall adventure. I also posted a few city adventure ideas on my blog. This one might be helpful.
I like running city adventures, and usually start with an interesting map. Dyson Logos has some great city maps to get you started. Also, Tarol Hunt had posted a video a while back about how to create a city campaign, but the video is no longer available. PM me and I can send you the steps they used in the video.
