As you say this, some images appear on a couple of the pages. The pages present you with pictures of nothics with the creature's name labelled on the page. There are several little details scribbled on the page, though little more than you know already. The ink on the pages fades away after some time.
"Um. Well, I know gelatinous cubes... and cave fishers... not many people like to eat aberrant, let me think. I learned a bit in an adventuring cookbook once, though ironically nothing from my church."
Perigord bites his lip as he tries to recall any aberrant types he knows of. (History Check?)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Trinjya hands the book over to Perigord.
"You guys can figure out the book, I'll keep an eye on our little friends."
She sneaks back into the room and tries to find a place to hide that allows her to keep an eye on the hole in the floor and she draws her dagger, ready to throw it at what ever will come out.
Perigord sits and thinks for a moment while Trinjya keeps watch. It's been a while, but several creature names come to mind, however one you remember seems to fit the bill more than the others. Gazer sticks out in your mind.
As you say the creatures' name in deep speech, you see the image of the tiny creature fade into view on one of the pages. A nasty little creature with one large eye on its body and four little eyestalks protruding from its head. Among the scribbled notes that appear, you see several pieces of information; that they usually travel in packs; are aggressive and will attack if they feel they have numbers to take down their prey; they're known to harass and follow people in their territory; and are good at mimicking sounds and voices.
"Ooh, hmph. Well, I've got some information here, and it seems that there's probably a good number of these gazers- they travel in packs and only attack if they have the numbers, and they've been attacking some. They must also have claimed this as their territory. And we should probably make some sort of code to beat their mimicking skills, they'll try and trick us; though I suppose you already learned that."
"Hmm... It doesn't say, but I assume so if they can mimic us so accurately. After all, if they can pick the right words to mimic, they must understand the words."
(OOC - I'm assuming you mean to look over the book again for any languages that the gazers speak?)
As you speak the creature's names again, once again the sketches and images and notes fade onto the page. Whoever wrote these notes has given some great insight into the creature, however in one of the bottom corners you see a small note.
Languages? Mimics speech only? No sign of communication between the creatures during observations. More study required.
You hear a faint echo from the tunnel, it sounds like a woman crying and sobbing. Then the sound of more nothics echo from around the library wings. The sounds die down to be suddenly replaced by another cacophony of high-pitched cackling and laughter.
"Huh. I guess they're just talented mimics, no actual speech. Sorry, Samael."
Perigord quickly fits the bestiary into his potions slot- the books from yesterday were left at the campsite, for clarity.
"These creatures seem to be too bestial to be redeemable. Should we attack? I'm sure the nothics would be appreciative, and there's no telling what this place might still hold."
Does Trinjya hear any of this? She'd agree to what has been said.
Seeing that the others finished ex.amining the book, she will move a bit closer to them.
"I'm not sure if we can lure them out. I could make another decoy but it will probably just draw some of their rays agsin and will not make them come out. Maybe we have to attack them down there or wait and see if they come up to spy on us. If we find a way to bring more decoys, maybe we can divert some of their attacks, that could give us an edge in a fight."
She whispers.

"so it gives information upon aberrants that one speaks of. try it with other creatures."

(OOC - Sure, with advantage.)

(ooc: Gazer? is that real or was that a homebrew?)
(OOC - its an actual D&D creature.)
"Ok... Book, show me a Gazer."

"can they understand us, however? if they can my will can overcome them."
(ooc: subtle hint that my command spells can be used on the bastard balls if the language goes both ways)
"Hmm... It doesn't say, but I assume so if they can mimic us so accurately. After all, if they can pick the right words to mimic, they must understand the words."
In Deep Speech: "Gazer languages."
In Common again. "Ill look again."

"we bring them close, then deliver with fury." whispers samael, all for the attack, but a bait out will be needed.
