"Well, it seems to me that I'm the only one here without a way to attack from afar, and the gazers will likely only fight from afar; their eye beams seem so powerful that I doubt they're up to spec physically. I can buff myself and act as bait, and then hopefully we'll be able to cut them down before they become a problem. But I'd prefer to keep that plan as a last resort, now that I think about it.
Again, though, the real issue is how can the illusions bait them out? They can attack from afar and in hiding, so they've no reason to move to a position we can easily attack."
A voice you've not heard before booms and echoes suddenly, and the nothic is clearly agitated by the sound. Perigord is the only one to understand it however as the grating and harsh sound of deep speech resounds.
@Perigord:
Put your spoiler here.
"Such entertaining little things you are. Worrying so much over so little," the voice chuckles and the hairs on your neck stand on end. "You pathetic little people stand in a library full of knowledge and all you care for are some tiny rats skittering about. My pets are no match for you. Why not just descend? I'm sure you'll find much more interesting times below. Come... come..."
The booming voice lets out another sinister sounding chuckle, which is joined by the high-pitched cackles all around, dying down after a minute or so of terrible raucous.
Stress Checks (Wisdom Save) for everyone again please.
(OOC: How well known are beholders in the world of Alycron? I just want to know how much I can guess at as I translate the speech)
(OOC - not well known. It is an reasonably unexplored environment with a lot of mystery and unknown creatures and spirits lurking about. Though based on the booming voice and its words, you can figure out that it's obviously a large creature and not one of the Gazers, especially given it's comment about it's 'pets'.)
As the voice echoes about the library, Perigord's mind starts to concoct all manner of image of what the creature that called to them from the depths might be, and his stress levels continue to rise.
"That voice- It speaks Deep Speech! It called the gazers 'pets' and said we were in a library; It wanted us to go deeper for 'interesting times.' If I may, I'm beginning to think that we may want to make a tactical retreat after dispatching the gazers and return later."
He whispers all this in a panicked, hushed voice, peering about to try to hide what he says from the seemingly present booming voice.
"Agreed, I don't want to run into whatever keeps those little bastards as a pet. Maybe we should be happy with what we already got and don't push our luck to far. If we want to deal with the eyeballs, I'd say we bring up as many decoys as possible to draw their attacks and then hit them as hard as we can."
(because beholders are magic creatures, dwell in lower parts and lower planes, and, using my backstory here, Samael ran in circles that dealt with lower-plane creatures and entities.)
Samael ponders over what could be calling the gazers its pets, you're not entirely certain it is a beholder, especially as there are numerous creatures within the species. Perhaps, but then there are many creatures in the lower planes, and some may even see it fit to enslave the little creatures as their pets.
"it's too risky to descend, we lure the gazers out, we kill them, we bring a corpse to the nothics of proof, warn them of what's below, and then return to the town and inform them of the situation." Samael writes out.
(OOC - yeah, the nothic was looking over your shoulders at the book as well. It hasn't moved, though definitely concerned at the voice booming from the depths.)
OOC: No idea, I thought that was Horatio. If not, though, the 'Perigord runs out and gets tromped upon' is still a viable plan. I can take maybe a round of attacks before I'll need support, but that might be pushing it- just basing it off of the imp being absolutely wrecked earlier.

"make the illusion dodge, fling a spell of its own, then it retreats and makes these gazers pursue." Samael writes on a piece of paper he has on hand.

Perigord gives a thumbs up and readies himself to charge the gazers.
