The echoing voice from the depths lets out a chuckle as you stand around trying to decide what to do. It is quickly joined by the high-pitched cackles from what feels like every which direction.
@Perigord:
"Surely you're not concerned over a few little pests? Come, come, my little friends. But just remember, it's best you use it, but keep it cool and especially don't lose it. Without it, you're useless."
The booming voice laughs again, joined by the cackling around you, and the hairs on your necks stand on end. The nothic at this point pivots to look up at something on the western wing of the library, though when you turn to look, you can't make anything out. The creature continues to stare across at the platform above however.
(OOC - Love the idea, but with Mirror Image the duplicates stay with you, so if you wanted them to charge, you would also need to charge. It's a defensive illusion used to confuse attacking monsters. If you have a spell like Major Image or Silent Image you could accomplish something similar. I'm happy for you to retcon that to something else if you'd like, or do you want to charge in with your duplicates?)
(Ah, misread the spell. I'd say its fair that Horatio charges in with the duplicates. Nothing like live bait the trap! Gandalon swoops overhead invis, ready to assist with a quick distraction or attack as warranted!)
As Horatio runs up onto the left wing, he misses the tiny creature lurking in the shadows just nearby and as he runs past, the creature fires two magical eye rays at him.
Dazing Ray - Wisdom Save DC 12 or charmed until creature's next turn, speed halved and disadvantage on attacks.
Telekinetic Ray - Strength Save DC 12 or pushed back 30ft.
Is anyone else doing anything as Horatio runs up the stairs? And I'll get everyone to roll initiative please.

((Just to make sure what kind of situation we are in. The whole group was down that northern staircase somewhere below the eastern platform. We heard the laughts and mimicking from below the hole in the floor and then the Nothic turned his(and our)attention to the western platform and Horatio ran to the stairs leading up to that plaform correct? Can we see the creature))

(OOC - that was how I pictured it too - you were all near one of the bookcases just south of the hole. The nothic saw movement on the western platform and drew your attention to it as the creature above dashed away, however you lose sight of it due to height difference between lower level and western side etc. It hid and managed to keep out of Horatio's sight as he ran up onto the western platform, but is no longer hidden after shooting off a couple of eye rays. Horatio and Gandalon can see the gazer now, might be tough for the rest of you to see from below, so it would have at least half cover for the rest of you below.)

(So, if I have read Mirror Image correctly, I need to roll 2 d20's to determine whether or not the rays hit Horation or one of his illusions. first roll: 7 and second: 3. If 6 or higher, than the attack is directed at a clone and not the real Horatio. Unless it has truesight, in which case disregard the rolls. Not sure how you want to classify the damage/effects of the eyerays vs illusory clones, but I would be fine if the ray tears through their magical substance, revealing the illusion at which point the enemies know not to bother attacking the obvious fake. Also, Initiative: 16)

(OOC - I'm absolutely fine with the rays having to determine between illusions and Horatio, it makes sense. The Mirror Image spell says that the target needs to be attacked, and while these are effects and there is no attack roll, there is an element of targeting as well.)
You hear high-pitched squabbling as the creature looks at you in confusion, firing off its rays only to have them streak through two of your duplicates. It squeals in annoyance.
So gazer is on far left, Horatio is tiefling just near him. Perigord (blonde hair), Samael (Dark hair human) and Trinjya (other tiefling) are down the bottom. Only one gazer is visible and seen at this point, though based on experience so far, you know there are more about.
((Trin would use mirror image again to maybe drae some of their attantion, it was not enough to get them come out of their hole before.))

"come then, little balls......"
(Also, dodge is ready in case the little buggers try something)
Horatio casts Mirror Image and sends his three clones charging towards the West wing where the Nothic stares!

Horatio races up the stairs to the north and circles round to the left wing. Make a perception check Horatio (DC 20).

Perigord was really just waiting to see an attack before going after the gazer, so nothing of note.

Initiative Order: Trinjya > Gazers > Horatio > Perigord > Samael
(OOC - sorry guys, I will post a map today. Crazy at home packing so didn't get a chance yesterday. My apologies.)

to the left of samael + co., is that a barrier?
