This spacious bedroom has walls decorated with wainscoting and rusty oil lamps. A four-poster stands against the south wall, its bedposts carved to look like stags and wolves. Opposite the bed is a stone hearth with a black marble mantel that has a pair of elk antlers mounted above it. A bare, dust-covered writing desk is set against the west wall under a pair of tall windows flanked by burgundy drapes. Other furnishings include a tall wardrobe in the northeast corner and an empty dog kennel in the southeast corner.
If the book didnt have such ominous writings within, id be back at Candlekeep proper with ya. Barbär replies with a long speaking sigh of anxious frustration. Honestly, im getting a little short with this Chalet. Theres clearly some other things at work here, may be physical, or may be of the unnatural types.
Barbär pulls out a book of tanned hide sheets bound together; His spell book.
Going over some of these on the way here, and i have a spell that im not sure of using it now to sus out any unnatural threats, or save it for a fight. What are your thoughts, Axebrother? And do you have any tricks?
"Well I bet this was quite the majestic love palace back in its day," Mavshoon chuckles, then notices the strange paneling on the wall and goes to investigate it.
An explosion of some kind damaged the two uppermost levels of this tower, creating a gaping hole between them and covering the area with soot. A curved wooden staircase that once rose along the outer wall has been destroyed, leaving no easy way to reach what remains of the tower’s topmost floor. All that’s left of the staircase are a few jagged shards of wood that jut out from the wall at different angles. What’s left of the staircase is not fit to climb.
Some sort of meeting was held here recently. On the floor are geometric markings and a small figuring of Orcus. It smells like rotting flesh in here.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Persuasion: 19 Using her sensual voice, Hino calls back “We’re here to see you, my love...and to join in on your little seance or whatever it is you’re doing here...”
"See me?" the voice replies. "What séance?" a young woman, robed and with the darkest black hair and bright eyes, peeks into the room from the broken rafters above, outside. "There is no loot here that will interest you. Most who come here want to pillage this place, or use the shadow crossing in the graveyard. Is that why you are here? The crossing?"
"Yes, my dear." Hino responds back. "We have no desire to pillage the old trinkets of this chalet. But the crossing? Yes. Are we allowed to use the crossing? And who are you?"
“Pleased to meet you. I’m Hino!” she says in a friendly tone. ”So, how does Crossing work? And if I paid you, would you be willing to show us? Surely the Scarlet Sash would be willing to take donations for your service?”
Her head pokes a little bit further out. Her head jerks curiously like a bird as she speaks. "Perhaps. We are it's guardians. In a way, you could say, we protect this world from what emerges from it. It is a portal to the Shadowfell where only darkness and death reside."
What of the family that once resided here do you know? We are somewhat aware of only very little. Theres been a lot of weirdness lately, and it all started with a Raven and a book. What is it we're missing here, or why have you brought us to this unsavory place?
"Hello Guardians of the Crossing. Would you happen to know anything about this?" and Mav will hold up the Book of the Raven "or perhaps a particular raven outside who might have great interest in this?"

You can hear a voice coming from somewhere - perhaps on the roof?
"Why are you here?" it squawks.

Hino is noticeably startled by that response, and looks to the others in the group for their reactions as well.
