*CLICK* It opens. The desk holds a set of calligrapher’s supplies and a leather-covered journal with a stylized wolf’s head on the front cover. In it, a woman describes her visits to the chalet, which she hated, and the tribulations of her daughters, whom she adored. Here are some of the highlights:
Baron Brantifax was an avid hunter and often invited guests to the chalet to hunt with him. The baroness admired his generous nature and his vigor.
The baron loved his trusty mastiff, Brorn, as much as he did his wife and children. The baroness disliked it when the baron fed the hound scraps from the dining table.
The baroness felt too isolated at the chalet. She much preferred the trappings of civilization and city life.
Sylphene, the couple’s firstborn daughter, was bedridden, having been born with terrible physical deformities. The baroness was glad that Sylphene could be housed in the chalet, to keep her far from the public’s eye. A nursemaid was hired to watch over the child while the baroness was away. The baroness describes Sylphene’s death at the age of six as “merciful,” and there’s some indication that the baroness had a hand in it.
Heluthe, the younger daughter of the baron and baroness, was a tomboy—more like her father than her mother. Heluthe was slain on her ninth birthday, killed by a wolf while out hunting with her father. The baroness doesn’t blame her husband for Heluthe’s death, but neither does she absolve him of his guilt.
Both daughters were buried in the chalet’s graveyard, at the baron’s insistence. In her final journal entry, the baroness speaks of “evil whispers” in the graveyard and makes plans to leave Chalet Brantifax, vowing never to return
Hino stands back and crosses her arms, leaning against the back wall of the study, and looks off in the distance, pensively. "So that explains the four graves out in the yard, and why the chalet has been abandoned. I wonder if those evil whispers she speaks of are the chalet's current tenants?"
‘To lose one daughter so young is tragic, but to lose both...? I feel there is evil at work here, though whether it is the mundane evil that might have festered within the heart of the baroness, or something darker we will have to see.’ Orvok sighs ‘I just hope whoever is here stops sneaking around and just speaks with us...’
Well then if thats the case, we can stay quiet and sneak about in what something made its home, or we can draw attention to our location. We can make some noise, er, well more noise than before.
Mavshoon smiles at Hino "if only you knew how well these hands could unlock all of your secrets, you'd end up paying me instead...." he purrs.
Then to Barbar he'll comment "I bet even our dear deceased friends out there have heard us stomping around their former home." and he'll shrug.
"While it is a sad story indeed, I'm sure Kelemvor has judged their souls accordingly and they are enjoying whatever afterlife they believed in. Unless of course Barbar is correct in his assumption that our raven friend is somehow the deceased daughter asking for some sort of help..."
Aye. Many questions left unanswered. Maybe we will have some fun after all when we figure all this craziness out. And Hino, dont fall for it. You know he has nothing on you, im sure.
Barbär gives a small chuckle saying this, and follows Orvok on up
"No fighting, boys, over little 'ol me! There's plenty of this to go around..." she says as she gently pats Barbär on the butt. "Besides, Hino doesn't hide from anyone. Hino sparkles!" she announces as she twirls around in place, silken kimono strangely being pulled inside her outer shell, revealing a black and red lacquered armor of some obscure provenance. She then pulls out of some hidden scabbard on her back the largest, most comical sword you've ever seen. How the heck did she even fit that inside her little body? Oh, the wonders never cease!
Hino quickly follows Barbär up the winding staircase, visual and audio sensors on full alert (Perception: 11).
Everyone needs to post at least once per day. Period. Those who are doing so, thank you very much, I appreciate your time, effort, and dedication. While all campaigns are different, with different themes, and different speeds, everyone here is expected to do, at least, the bare minimum - unless you give me a heads up. I pay attention to these kinds of things as a DM. The next person who doesn't post daily, you will be kicked. Once again, I have standards, and if you don't or can't follow them, you will find yourself excused. I know this might sound harsh to some people, but one of the qualities I pride myself on is trying to give people an exceptional, noteworthy PBP experience and if that means I alienate myself by enforcing this rule with some people because I am tough, or unrealistic, so be it.
I'm honestly a little shocked I need to keep bringing this up lately, especially with the veterans.
Now, with that being said, let's continue. The circular staircase leads to C15
C15 - ATTIC NURSURY
This attic has a peaked roof that slopes down toward the east and west. Dust blankets everything in the room, including a stone hearth in the middle of the north wall, an oval mirror mounted above it, and an oval rug on the floor. Against the west wall, half hidden behind curtains of cobwebs, is a bed sized for a young child, a rocking chair, a shelf lined with dolls, and a washbasin. A niche to the south contains a small wooden cradle, a wooden playpen, and a window box. Suspended above the playpen is a mobile made of colorfully painted fish on the ends of hooks.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Orvok is looking to see if the room was undisturbed before he came up, since the cobwebs seemed so thick, scratching his head (with the hand holding the shield!) with a certain amount of perplexitude.
The nursery appears undisturbed, and there is nothing under the bed. However, you can hear creaking floorboards directly on the level below you. You get the sinking feeling something is either here, hiding, or messing with your heads.
Seeing Mavshoon do work in his field, Barbär will start to make some noise to help muffle the footsteps, and grabs the rocking chair and drags it with an intentional screeching, then gives the bed a foot shove to push it, then stomps about.
Mavshoon, when you return to AREA C12, there is nothing there. And no one answers Hino. It seems like something is messing with you guys. AREA C15, the Nursery, has no doors that lead to other rooms, so unless you wish to interact with other things in C15, pick a new location and keep exploring. The answers must be somewhere? What could that raven possibly want?
The door to C10 is open. It looks like a guest room. This bedroom hasn’t been disturbed in years, as evidenced by the thick dust and cobwebs covering everything. Furnishings include a narrow bed with a moldy mattress and an elegantly carved headboard, an empty wooden dresser, a nightstand, a coat rack, and a padded armchair. An oval mirror hangs on the wall next to the door. C11 is similar in every way.

Ok.

Meera will search under the bed, and inside the shelf and cradle to see if there's anything noteworthy in this room.

Well i guess the coast is clear!
Said with sarcasm
Hino calls out "Sylphene? Heluthe? Is that you? Don't be afraid! We're here to help you find the peace that you so deserve!"

Orvok heads back downstairs, and makes his way to the north side, to check out the smaller rooms (C10 and C11), starting to get frustrated...
’Give me an orc or a damn drow beneath me blade any day of the week...’ he grumbles...
C10 and C11
The door to C10 is open. It looks like a guest room. This bedroom hasn’t been disturbed in years, as evidenced by the thick dust and cobwebs covering everything. Having given the two rooms a cursory examination, Orvok continues up the stairs at the end of that corridor to check out the room above...
’Come on out to say hello..’ he invites in a loud voice ‘I don’t bite, unless yer an orc...’
