As the group sits to discuss their options, Naumick says, "I'm not much for shopping nor fancy clothes. Not judgin' any of you if you be. I think I'll go grab me a drink at the Portal and see what these Zhents are peddling." The dwarf looks from one to the other before nodding curtly. "If you be going with me, get of that seat and on yer feet." Naumick exits and heads toward the Yawning Portal.

"I have business with them as well. I'll join you as well dwarf." Bruvir commented as he left the room he was in to grab what he needed.
THE ZHENTS (BRUVIR/NOM/AVYS/SYL) After a brief secluded initiation, you are given your first assignment. “Someone is killing elf and half-elf sailors in the Dock Ward — three dead so far, each one decapitated by a blade in the dead of night. Look into it, will you? Methinks the City Watch could use a little help.”
Head to the Dock Ward tonight, and keep an eye out.
Avys sighs a bit in response to his comrades decision. "They don't seem like my ideal folk, but I will join. Perhaps we can reduce the gang violence in the area while we're at it." Avys packs up his things and calls for Iago to join him as he floats over into Avys' side bag.

"That's unacceptable, it sounds like someone has a penchant for hate crimes. We will investigate the area at once." he'll look towards the other two as they begin to head towards the docks.
Kasha stays at home with Feliara and keeps cleaning, playing in the trees, and moving the new furniture around. Lif has the ingredients now to make meals, and you have tables and chairs to sit on. You were also able to purchase basic beds and dressers.
The Dock Ward is a damp, swanky, crime ridden cesspit of scum and villainy. This is not someplace you'd want to take your kids. There are a number of taverns here, luckily all along the main street. It's not lit very well, and there's plenty of places for someone to hide among the buildings.
"Killin' elves? On the dock ward?" Syl repeats, arms folded and with an expression of surprise on his face. "Damn - I've spent years passed out in alleys. If they're after elves, I'm sure I'll fit right in." He wiggles his eyebrows with a grin. "Shall we go fishing? I'll be the bait, yeah? I'd rather it be me than you, Kasha, Feliara. Don't worry - I can outrun them if it gets real bad."
Sylivar leaves the trove of books he purchased somewhere in the cellar. He swigs a couple drinks down - he promises it's part of the act and not to steady his nerves - before waltzing out to the familiar dock ward. Ah, the memories. The splintered wood, the sound of ale mugs clinking down. Drunken brawls were Sylivar's main source of income. And there certainly were plenty here - but this time, Syl puts on a more drunken display as the sun nears the horizon. Secretly, he hopes the party is quite near.
Naumick watches Syl down his drinks and stroll out before quietly gathering his own items, picking up his crossbow last. He gives it a good once over and smiles. He then follows. "I'll set up somewhere where I can get a good shot," he announces once they arrive at the docks. "Where you planning on setting hook, wino?" He offers a wink, scouting the area for dark corners and possible hidey holes.

"Fine. Just don't be too much of a fool and chose a spot that's easy and quick for us to reach you." Bruvir commented.
Avys looks at Syl nodding in agreement "Yes, you could act as bait if you're comfortable. Perhaps we can find a good location to trap the culprits and deal with them from there. I'm wondering if there's any opportunity to scope out the area before we leave you out to act as a lure."he turns to the Zhent representative, "Are they in specific locations when the bodies are found? In an alley? on empty-ish ships? Or are there any notes being left with the bodies?"
"Are they in specific locations when the bodies are found? In an alley? on empty-ish ships? Or are there any notes being left with the bodies?" "Yes, in the Dock Ward, near alleys. No notes. Just dead elves and half elves."
Ok! Those who are on the Zhent mission, please make a DC18 Perception check for me.
Syl shrugs as he haphazardly wanders the crumbling docks, seemingly unconcerned with the entire ordeal. "Anywhere that you can see me. Don't be too far. I'll probably be in an alley somewhere. Alleys sound good for me - I'm familiar with huddling up in them." Syl attempts to find a suitable, defensible vantage point where he promptly cakes himself in muck and pours a spare bottle of ale over his clothes - they would need a wash - in order to act the part of a drunken bait. Let's hope they bite. Not too hard, though.
Syl is familiar with acting drunk - after all, brawls where much easier to win when your opponents underestimate you. Beneath his blurry, hazy expression, his alert eyes are actively scanning the surroundings. Perception! 20

Naumick skulks about the dock ward, as that seems appropriate for this part of the city. He offers a slight smirk watching Syl act drunk, and moves to find a good spot to watch the foolish monk yet still remain hidden.

There! Over there! In the darkness in one of the alleyways! A drunken half elf is zombie walking into it. You can see the glint of steel! Like in slow motion, another humanoid grabs the half elf, it's a drow - he raises his hand up - he's got a blade! You have mere moments to save this man!

"Was I not tasty enough for you???" Syl yells, loud enough for the party to hear, a heavy slur in his speech. It seems the bait plan didn't work. Whether the stagger in his step was all part of an act or if he really was drunk is difficult to tell - but still, Syl stumbles forward towards the drow.

Syl approaches and places a hand on the drow's back. When they turn around to see who's there, Syl cracks them in the jaw with an elbow before kneeing them in the gut and headbutting them on the way down.
