[It seems like you guys are set on knocking three times, if not, let me know:]
You knock three times and you hear an older voice call from somewhere deep within, frustrated, but still sort of kind sounding "Fared! Is that you? Your delay is hardly excusable. I hope you have a good reason for your tardiness." After a few moments the door bursts open and you see a very old, sort of stern looking man with a mane of white hair encircling his head. He is draped in very elegant looking robes with various scrolls, vials, and trinkets. He looks at you with a puzzled look on his face. "You are not Fared. This is most curious... Did Fared send you? I am a little disturbed by this situation..."
The Wizard looks at you with very confused eyes...
"I'm sorry, you're ordering sandwiches? This is not a deli. Who are you. Where is Fared. That cargo was very important. Do you mean to tell me that you found a cart, mangled aside the road and you found all of these things just out in the elements? Did you see any signs of a person in the wreckage? Specifically a middle aged human, about 6 feet tall?"
"Thing was all burned up." Brigette shrugs, "Saw a fancy slipper poking out but didn't get close enough to see if there was a foot in it. I could go back and take a look for... twenty silver? Wouldn't take long."
"I did find these interesting books, but they've seen better days. I assume they aren't the cargo you refer to, but there wasn't much else to find.
I am sorry indeed about your friend, good sir. It did seem as though, perhaps, his cart had been attacked and set fire to. Perhaps your precious cargo was stolen... may I ask what it is you were expecting?"
The old man looks at you puzzled for a moment before inviting you into his house.
If you enter:
You walk through the arched doorway and see a scene of utter chaos. There are books everywhere. It is probably the biggest library you have ever seen. It's almost as if his entire house is one giant library. There is one circular main room that has bookshelves floor to ceiling. A small wooden table is burried under a giant tome and there are dozens of open books on the floor. Scrolls of parchment are completely filled with notes. None of the are very legible to you but you get the impression that this wizard is serious. There is a flight of stairs to the right that goes up and a flight of stairs to the left that go down. The wizard rummages through a cupboard and produces a coin purse;
"Fared wouldn't have just gone missing. He is a healthy, able-bodied man. And this region has been peaceful for decades. This is too suspicious. If you go back to the wreckage and try to find Fared I will pay you 10 Gold each. If you bring him back here I will pay you each, an additional 90 gold." he looks through the items Fritz brought and says quietly, "There is one very important item missing, it is likely on Fared's person, whether he be living or not. I need that item."
The Wizard simply says, "It's a silver trinket. Shaped like an anvil. Possibly on a chain around his neck or wrist. It is not of much note but it is important to me."
"Wonderful. Well, yes, I do believe we can see this through for you. We won't rest until this mystery is solved, will we friends!?
And perhaps, once the job is done, you might allow me some time to look through some of these books of yours. This is quite a collection!
Oh, might I ask, might you recognise this shoe as belonging to your friend?"
With a wiggle of his fingers and a few arcane words, Fritzel would conjure up the image of the shoe they saw sticking out from under the ravaged cart (minor illusion).
Chariz chuckles. "Perhaps, you may look through my collection. It seems that you have a penchant for the magical." He then does a quick incantation and before you appears the image of a man. Average height, average weight, sandy brown hair wearing fine clothing. He continues, "This is Fared, or at least, as he appeared to me the last we met. That shoe looks like something he would wear..."

Brigette steps forward. "Well sir, it may be that this Fared fellow met something of a grizzly end on the road out of town."
She glances back toward the Orc and Elf for support but they stand still and silent, so rolling her eyes in exasperation she continues.
"My little employer here, found a letter in the wreckage of his cart and well... we are here to deliver it I suppose."
And with that she steps back and waits for the gnome to continue. Between gritted teeth she speaks to the other two.
"Well thanks a bunch for all the help there."

Wolf grunts a little. he is obviously not used to talking with so many people.
"sorry. I've never really done a lot of talking before. now if you need food, I can do that easily." he says to Brigette.
I totally advise riding an animated castle.
Brigette returns the grunt and thinks for a moment before responding to Wolf in a more friendly tone, "I could eat a sandwich."

Fritzel's mage hand will float over to Keenan and pluck the envelope from his pocket. It will then float over and present the envelope to the man.
"We believe that this was meant for you. You are Mr. Chariz I presume?"
Fritzel would then whisper to Wolf, "I would also like a sandwich."
"..and pickles." Brigette adds. "You like pickles boss?" she asks Fritzel.
She leans over an prods their elven companion with the end of her bow. "Silent type huh? I can dig that."

"er well... when I said food I meant I could go hunting.... I um, am not great at cooking." Wolf says awkwardly.
then Wolf turns toward the wizard "no sir, we saw no people..."

Fritzel simply stands agape for a while, marvelling at all the books...
"...yes, yes er... we would of course be happy to. But, it would help, perhaps, to know what this object is that you seek...?"
The Wizard simply says, "It's a silver trinket. Shaped like an anvil. Possibly on a chain around his neck or wrist. It is not of much note but it is important to me."

"When you to have finished showing each other your illusions we should get going." Brigette says with a grin.
"Do you have any magic tricks up your sleeve?" she asks wolf in a rather loud whisper.
DM - Warlock of Firetop Mountain
"Alright then. Come on Wendle!"
Fritzel turns on his heels and starts marching out of the house, seemingly expecting Brigette and the silent orc to follow.
Wendle glances at the others, then scurries after his master.
"I wonder where that elf has gotten to..." Fritzel mutters, almost to himself.
Brigette Follows, keeping a eye out for any stalls selling sandwiches as they pass through town. Perception: 20

As we walk Brigette looks over at wolf, "You know, I am sure it was a lot quicker getting her. It must be down to the gnawing hunger I am feeling."
Then to the gnome, "Hey short stuff, the names Brigette what's yours?"
