Fritzel turns to Brigette, his head held high, with his thumbs in his waistcoat pockets.
"Fritzel Frank Fitzblunder, student of magic, seeker of wonder. Pleased to meet your acquaintance!"
He bows a little, then - leaning close to Brigette, a floating pink hand appearing beside his mouth as if to hide a secret, he whispers to her:
"I think it might just be you, me and Wendle to follow this through and solve the mystery of what happened to poor Mr. Fared. Our two friends over there seem a little... absent..."
"What's your purpose in these parts, might I ask. I don't believe I've ever seen you in the town library before, so I guess you're passing through from further afield?"
They talk as they walk, "Me? Bow for hire mostly. Used to work in the city guard over in Talbot and decided to go freelance. The money is better and there are usually sandwiches."
"Oh, well, we gnomes usually do have a little touch of magic in us to start with. But I didn't really learn any spells until recently. I am - er, was - a librarian you see. And one day, I uncovered a particularly interesting book. I can't say who it belonged to originally, or how it had found its way into an old heap of tomes.
The book contains many strange and wonderful arcane instructions, and after months of study I found that I was able to implement some of them. After learning a few simple tricks -" The floating pink hand waves to you, "- I figured out how to summon Wendle here. He's no ordinary weasel, you see. And I have learned a few other, more dangerous spells. Ooh, that reminds me!"
Fritzel stops, pulls his sack from his little cart and opens it up. He pulls out a little bundle wrapped in thin cloth, and tied closed with a leather cord. He unties the leather then holds it in his hands, eyes closed.
"Praesidium Magirium!"
The leather cord fizzles away into motes of silver light, that then float over the gnome and settle upon his clothes. He shines for a moment, then the light subsides. His clothes still hold a strange, almost metallic sheen.
Fritzel opens the cloth bundle, and pulls out two objects -
"Sandwiches!"
Gleefully, he hands one to Brigette, then takes a bite of the other.
"Perhaps - nom nom - we should get going!"
And he starts off again toward the road to Talbot as he eats.
Fritzel has cast Mage Armour and expanded 2 rations.
Brigette takes the sandwich gratefully and takes a bite.
"Sh'o..." she speaks around chewing her food. "Do you think..." chewing... "This chap is dead?"
OOC: DM if we are to continue to play with two ranged characters could we take on a sidekick/pet to act as a meat-shield? Something that doesn't talk perhaps. Just a thought.

She eyes the floating pink hand.
"So where'd you learn all the magic trick?"

"Dead as a door nail!" Fritzel says, skipping ahead.
