Headmistress Belasco listens to Alessa’s questions, responding concisely to each. “I have not stayed with the children all night to watch them. Check on them, enforcing curfew, certainly. The mystery of the death of Felix’s parents was never solved. I only received report of deaths from town guards. Felix has not shown injury, but neither have numerous other orphans. Felix seems troubled in his own way. Father Lucian has offered blessings, yes.”
She turns to Zied, her expression troubled. “Nature of wounds is bruising. Scratching. Biting. Like children playing rough. Much too rough.”
Regmiir:
You do get the impression that the Headmistress is honestly concerned about the safety of the children.
The Headmistress immediately grabs a quill and begins scribbling notes in a neat, severe script. “Goodness. Hags? Eating children? Horrors never cease! Poor dears. They are welcome here. Where are they now? The church? You should bring them at first light. Breakfast is at eight ‘o clock, sharp.” She peers up from her notes. “Sharp. Whatever shenanigans you engage in during night hours, do not interfere with orphanage schedule. It runs like clockwork. And without Milivoj to assist, all responsibility rests with me. Not that I complain. I was born for this work!”
Alessandra nodded to Headmistress's answers. "Speaking of Milivoj... We did come to see him but only established that the boy is severely ill. Would you allow us to try to treat him? Better yet, to stay in the orphanage, to be able to check on children? It would be also easier for the kids we are going to bring in. Familiar faces might help to adjust to the new home."Before Headmistress Belasco had a chance to say hard "no" Alessa quickly added. "We can help around the orphanage too, while you are so understaffed."
Sezsu blinks in semi-bewilderment at the rapid changes of direction in the conversation.
"So yes, Headmistress, we are on the lookout for a way home. But we can't, in good conscience, ignore the plights and sufferings of those around us while we work to our own ends. That's a form of evil in itself and neither the Moonmaiden nor the Morninglord would permit it."
He smiles and stands again.
"We'd be happy to help with your phantom abuser problem. I wonder if it may be in any way tied to Milivoj's illness..." He trails off with a thoughtful expression and glances at Edlanar and more quietly adds, "I wonder if there could be some sort of poison involved."
"We'll need to see to young Milivoj's ailment first and foremost, though. He seems to be in really bad shape and it would be best to tend him before he gets worse. Perhaps then we can rest and bring the children back for breakfast and begin our inquiries with the rest of your residents."

"I trust you are accustomed to making due with sparse accommodations? There are certainly chores enough. Laundry, cooking, cleaning. You are not above mundane work, I take it."
She then leads you to the bedroom right next to Milivoj's. It smells of mothballs. The bed is covered with a crocheted quilt and a framed doily hangs on the wall. "Spare room," she adds needlessly, lighting an oil lamp by the bed. "Well, now that there is no prospect of further rest, I will be in my office until it is time to prepare breakfast. You may look in on Milivoj. Also, bring children you spoke of for morning meal. I will greet them at that time." Milivoj's condition has not changed. He still sweats, occasionally moaning and twitching.

Regmiir nods solemnly at the kindness shown by the Headmistress as a feeling of both relief and sadness welled up from within. He replies clearly to seal the arrangement, "Thank yeh Headmistress Belasco."
Regmiir steps in to get a closer look at Millivoj's condition. Looking closely at his exposed skin and taking account of the moaning and twitching, he thinks back through his experience of dealing with sickness in the wild. Trying to see if the symptoms match any sort of herbal remedy he's concocted in the past, Reg strokes his beard as he ponders. Maybe, he wonders, there will be a way we can ease his pain even if we don't address the root cause.

"On the road, one learns many skills,"Alessa gave the Headmistress a half-smile and moved with the others to look at the sick boy (Grano returned to her shoulder on the way). She could not add anything to the medical examination but if they wanted to be thorough, a simple magic influence should not have been excluded. "I will check the room for the presence of magic." She turned away from others for the time needed to summon the magic sight and then looked at Milivoj and the room itself. (Detect Magic)

Turning his head slightly to the right and looking mildly confused for a moment. "I spent most of my apprenticeship doing such things. They shall be of no issue." Zied states plantive and breifly as they travel.
Once the accomidations are stated and other such set up. "Do we leave the children in the care of the church for the night, or were we worried about such?" he queries the group.

Zied can fairly determine that Milivoj's condition is not contagious, but is in fact magical in nature.
Alessa's eyes glow softly and, from her perspective, the world takes on a newfound character. She observes a dark aura surrounding Milivoj, tremulating and roiling. She detects traces of necromancy magic, as if from a bestow curse spell.
(Actions? This is a bit of an investigation of the premises.)
Alessa finally lowered her eyes and stopped looking at the blackening aura emanating from the body. "I am afraid we can not help here. Nobody can. The boy is cursed." She turned away - the look of these necrotic clouds was sickening - and shook her head. "We can maybe find and punish the one who cursed him, but it would not help Milivoj. If the one who did it is the same entity that attacks children now, we have to catch it fast. I would like to see children now when they are asleep."
Should that be allowed (technically, the group was part of the staff now) she would walk into the kids' bedroom, to see if the aura was present there as well.
(FWIW, Sezsu will always assist with guidance if asked and not otherwise engaged.)
Rubbing the exhaustion from his eyes -- danger now averted -- Sezsu follows the group to their accommodations and drops his pack on the floor. He trudges behind them back to Milivoj's room. He assists with any inspections/investigations by both mundane and magical means if asked.
At the mention of a curse, he perks up a bit.
"You're probably right, Alessa, but not all curses are permanent. In some cases they can be reversed by the one who bestowed it or by righting whatever conditions triggered it. I think the difficult part will be figuring out how he was cursed in the first place. I..." He trails off as he notices her leaving the room.
"Hm. She probably already knows all that," he says and sighs as he turns back to the boy.
"I don't know if this will help. But if I can make him rest less fitfully, maybe it'll hold him over until the morning."
The young cleric runs both hands through his hair as he takes a deep breath and tries to center himself. His eyes open once more and he lays a hand on the glistening forehead of Milivoj and casts sleep.
Once everyone is confident they won't be able to make any more headway tonight, he heads back to the room next door and collapses on the floor, hugging his pack as a pillow, and passes out.
Alessa steps into the darkened front hallway. The wooden staircase sags with age and creaks with each step.
At the top, the stairs end in the second floor hallway, which has six different doors. Most are wide open. Only the single door at the north end of the hall is closed. There's also a hatch on the ceiling at the southern end of the hall. The hallway's only window on the southern wall is broken and boarded up.
Alessandra tried to step lightly, not to hide from anyone but to let the kids sleep. She was looking for the bedroom and with help of Grano checked the rooms one by one, giving passing glance to the empty one. Should the open room be empty, she will work to the closed one and carefully open the door.
At the mention of a curse, the weight of guilt from realizing yet another child in a helpless situation was exhausting to Regmiir. He wiped his face with a hand and let it slide down to his beard, to which he pinched the tuft in his palm. The dwarf let out a tired sigh as he dismissed the notion of the sickness being natural. Nothing seemed natural in this land, he thought, so at least he could count on that.
He listens to Alessa and Sezsu discuss options, though admittedly knew much less about the arcane and occult arts. Despite the lack of expertise, Regmiir's ears perked up at one of Sezsu's statements:
"You're probably right, Alessa, but not all curses are permanent. In some cases they can be reversed by the one who bestowed it or by righting whatever conditions triggered it. I think the difficult part will be figuring out how he was cursed in the first place."
Regmiir juts into the conversation, "Speaking of conditions, yeh don't think it might 'ave been t'bones 'e took, eh? I mean, that's what Yeska 'ad told us. Seems to be t'logical conclusion, and if that was it, then maybe there's 'ope for t'boy."
Of course, they would still need to find the bones. That seemed to at least be a simpler prospect than squaring off against the hags and wolves from earlier.
Regmiir follows the group into the hallway. His hand subconsciously finds its way to the head of the warhammer, and though he does not expect to need it within the orphanage, it still comforts him nonetheless. He watches keenly as Alessa begins to investigate the rooms, staying towards the center of the hallway as he stays tense should any danger appear.
(Moving clockwise, passing the closed door for now)
The first room into which Alessa peers contains five beds, each occupied by a young girl. Soft snores occasionally issue from the sleepers. While her detect magic spell does not register visible magical auras, a peculiar sense of dread seems to fill the room.

Regmiir flinches at the creaking floorboard from where Alessa stepped. He makes mental note of the place where her step caused the noise and draws his warhammer. Carefully, he begins to walk the length of the hall, using the weighted head to press down gently on the floor and observe where the weak paneling would give way.
As others begin to make their way thru the hallway, he silently directs them around the weak spots in the floor to better aid in their skulking through the orphanage.

While leaving the room with the cursed child, Zied pauses a moment and takes a set of vials, and seems to poke a hole through one's' quark and a straggle string of goop slowly comes out, he dips a needle's tip into it and pulls, drawing a glimmering thread of goop that seems to no longer be goopy. Using it he traces the entry way, as well as areas around the child. finally driving the needle and the other end of the goop into the second via's quark. Which glows and hums briefly, nodding to himself he heads to join the others.
(Alarm spell the room with the cursed child. Set to alerting just Zied inaudibly. Using the pack slot recovered in the church earlier)
As the others fan out and search. Zied rather opts to head to the most suspicious spot as the others search the low. Taking care to walk along the wall-taking cue from the kindness the others show in not awaking those asleep-Zied heads to the hatch to check and examine it and listen through it best he can.

Not knowing what they're looking for, precisely, Sezsu follows the group up the stairs and carefully makes his way to the south first as Alessa & Regmiir head north (assuming everyone stays in the hall and simply looks into the rooms). He peeks inside the southeast room.
Alessa steps lightly into the doorstep, but the creaking floorboard beneath her boot betrays her attempts at subterfuge. One of the girls rolls to the side, awakened by the sound but still fogged by sleep. She groans and rolls back over, undisturbed by the presence of the Headmistress.
(Alessa, you may make an Investigation and/or Perception check.)
Sezsu peers into the southeast room. This bedroom contains five beds, four of which are perfectly made and appear unused. The fifth is also empty, although the covers are tossed aside, as though the sleeper has been roused from bed.

Further down the hall, Zied examines the hatch in the ceiling, but hears nothing.
