Once they are ready to leave, Arisa will confirm the other riders are still far away from the bridge, and give the order to lower the bridge, again telling the guards to be ready to raise again if there is any sudden movements. She will continue her readied action to attack Xolin with guiding bolt if needed.
As soon as they cross the bridge, we will raise it again.
Just before you give the signal to lower the bridge, Alana cries out in alarm from the north watchtower, her voice piercing the tenuous silence."
"OOOOOORCS!!!"
"ALERT!!! WARBAND APPROACHING FROM THE NORTH!!! EVERYONE READY DEFENSES!!!
Arisa
Looking over at the guard, Arisa can see that her eyes are trained on the open plain just to the north of the village. Following her gaze, she instantly spots the source of her urgent distress: an orc band, perhaps 20 strong, that's just rushed out of the Ardeep forest and is charging south, directly towards Nightstone. The four horse riders by the tree have spotted them as well and have leapt back onto their mounts.
Xolkin immediately screams out, "Lower the bridge!!!! Let my men in!!!"
"How many? Can we riders fight them outside the walls?" If they're few in number, Vernon doesn't believe they're worth letting the riders in for, but he would join the riders in battle.
Arisa calls out “ about 20 Orcs- we are outnumbered- to go out there is suicide.”
Is there enough time to lower and raise the drawbridge to let the others in before the Orcs arrive? Not sure that is a good idea- just wondering what is possible given how Far away the Orcs are...
It definitely seems like it would be close, but judging by the distance and the speed of the orcs, you figure you have just enough time to let the riders in and get the drawbridge back up before the orcs reach the moat.
Knowing what Belkas said about these men, she’s not going to let them in fully armed. She yells to Xolkin
“I am sorry I do not trust your men to come inside. They can ride away and their horses can outrun those Orcs, or stand and fight and prove their worth. I am not lowering the gate for them and risking the Orcs attack on the town Keep the bridge up!”
Xolkin scowls up at you, but then shakes his head in resignation before answering.
"Then give me a bow so I can help defend against the attack. And yell to my men, and tell them to fight, but to keep their distance!"
By now, the orcs are getting closer, and you can see that they have no gear, aside from their weapons. You can also see that their war chief is bleeding from wounds that appear to be inflicted by elven arrows, a few of which are still sticking out of him and his armor.
Xolkin's men are already on their horses and are watching the approaching orcs tenuously as they start backing up to the south.
With the order to keep the bridge up, the other guards come up, and so now all four are on the tower, each with two spears that they have brought up with them.
If the Orcs don’t approach close enough to shoot, Arisa will yell out to the Orcs(in common, she doesn’t know orcish). . ”None shall pass into this village! Begone”
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Osmord emerges from his shell, eyes still fixed on Kella and Xolkin. This all feels a little too convenient and he does not trust that Xolkin has not planned this in some way.

OOC : lol sorry that is only a 17 I took the stat from the wrong character!! Duh!!
Gauging the interaction between Kella and Xolkin, Osmord sees no reason to believe that any of this is related. Plus, it would seem a bit farfetched that a small group such as this could actually cooperate with an unruly orc band and time it all perfectly. That and the elf arrows stuck in the orc war chief. At any rate, they seemed as surprised as you are.
The orcs come charging towards the village, yelling war chants in their guttural orc speak, ignoring any call made by Arisa atop the tower. You can see that each orc carries a great axe and a pair of javelins. When they get closer, the orcs begin to wrap around towards the moat near the drawbridge, which is still closed. Arisa sends a fire bolt at the war chief, but at this distance, and with the moving target, it's a hard aim and she watches the arcane missile sail harmlessly overhead.
The group of four horseman keep their distance, and begin firing their crossbows at the orcs. They manage to injure two of them, but the tide keeps coming with no slowdown.
Kella and Xolkin, and their two companions go scrambling to look for bows. Xolkin finds two next to the goblin bodes in the square, and the others find two more over by the trading post.
Right now, the orcs are two rounds away from arriving at the gate, so each of you can go ahead and perform two rounds worth of actions/movement.
In the shadows of a nearby building, Zyllith remains hidden from sight as she considers her options. At the moment the orcs require those with ranged attacks, and her companions are better suited for that. For now she decides to remain in hiding. Xolkin and his criminals friends are not likely even aware of her presence, the orcs even less so, best to keep it that way for now until her sharp blade is needed.
Just in case she prepares her dagger in one hand while the other holds onto her rapier.
Belkas will use his powers to send out two Eldritch Blast spells at the Orc leader. He will shout out in Orcish, "Keep on moving. This village is not for you!"
Belkas will duck down behind the battlements after each spell.
Arisa and Belkas both fire off two rounds of spells aimed at the orc chief, and judging by the response and anger, you definitely do some damage. However, he leads his band with fury as they charge forward, finally reach the moat. With no way to get into the village, about half the orcs splash down into the water and begin swimming across, while the other half hold position with their javelins at the ready, roaring and rattling them against their armored chests, and shouting a ferocious battle cry of death and slaughter below.
You can now see that, in addition to the war chief, the horde is also being led by a second fierce lieutenant, a one-eyed orc, who's fury and bloodlust appear to be no less savage than that of the chief.
I'll wait until Osmord states this actions, and then we'll start the battle.
Osmord will use a round dashing into place on the gate tower (Also using some movement from his second round if needs be). He will then cast chill touch on both the leader and one eye; using what ever movement he has left to edge back out of sight.
“Let’s focus our fire on the leader and that one-eye. If they breach the walls we need to be ready to retreat to the keep!” Arisa says to her companions.
((So, just to be clear, Arisa, Osmord and Belkas are atop the south watchtower, using the battlements for 3/4 cover, while Zyllith and Vernon are still down below, right?))
The clamor below gets even louder, with stamping, chanting, yelling, roaring and weapons bashing against armor. The orcs in the water make it across the moat and slam their bodes up against the palisade, some trying to climb it and other trying to chop through with their axes, while the others launch a volley of javelins up at the towers. The most of them slam into the wall, with a couple sailing overhead, but four of them hit, even with you hiding partly behind the cover of the wall.
One catches Arisa in the shoulder for 5damage.
Osmord is also hit by one of the javelins for 6damage.
Both Alara and Torem the guards are also quite injured in the attack, Torem quite seriously.
Suddenly a deafeningly loud thunderclap booms right over your heads, although the sky is clear. It doesn't any damage, but it's certainly frightening and adds to the already threatening feel of this situation.
All four guards launch their first round of spears down at the javelin wielding orcs, and Sydiri, Alana and Torem each hit their targets and injure two of them.
Once they are ready to leave, Arisa will confirm the other riders are still far away from the bridge, and give the order to lower the bridge, again telling the guards to be ready to raise again if there is any sudden movements. Arisa will position herself in 3/4 cover on the roof of the tower and ready a fire bolt for use against the closest Orcs.
Xolkin scowls up at you, but then shakes his head in resignation before answering.

Arisa yells down “the goblin bodies have bows. it looks like the Orcs are injured by elvish arrows.”
she yells to Xolkin’s men” Xolkin wants you to fight the Orcs!”
When/if the orc chieftain comes within 120 Feet of her she will fire bolt him. 12 to hit, 9 points of damage.
