Ryn: Nodding his agreement, Ryn says, "I'd sure feel a lot better if I knew at least something about what we'd be walking into." Ryn squints as he tries to track Melaria's wondrous dragon as it soars above them.
Gesturing toward the town, he continues, "As much as I wish to put this place behind us and get back on the road... there is money to be made here and we need better gear if we're going to pull off saving Gundren. Perhaps spending the day learning more about this manor and looking for other work is wiser than rushing off to rescue him?"

"Not all those who wander are lost." - J.R.R. Tolkien
Indio looks from the cleric to the fighter to the rogue and back, wondering who will make the first move. With a shrug, he starts down the road to the east, towards the Sleeping Giant and the hill on which sits the desolate manor.
Ryn: Having some idea what Indio is thinking, Ryn catches up and says, "I want to find Sildar's friend as much as anyone, but we can't go in blind."
As they near the Sleeping Giant, Ryn cracks a wry smile and says, "If you're spoiling for a fight, I'll wager the boys in here are up for a good scrape. I'll also wager these "Redbrands" can tell us at least something about what to expect up the road there." He pauses a moment, glancing up at the manor.
Drawing his walking staff from its holster, he looks back with a grin and says, "Let's try not to kill anybody though... if you can help it."
The monk gives a slight smile back. "We'll see what comes. But the closer we get to the hill, the easier it will be to scout out a more discreet route into the manor." He shrugs. "Who knows? These Redbrands are probably nothing but bullies, used to harassing townsfolk. They might not have the stomach for a real fight. We may get some actual information from them." His smile widens. "But I'm not counting on it. And I really don't like bullies."
As his companions discuss how to manage the Redbrands, Teo continues to practice his magic, working with Mage Hand before progressing to conjuring different Minor Illusions. He makes a large crate appear and disappear, then a tree stump, and finally a good-sized boulder. He squints at each conjured object, evaluating its realism. He also experiments with the somatic and vocal gestures, keeping them as subtle as he can. He waves away his final illusion, the boulder, apparently satisfied with its appearance.
Note to DM: Teo will cast an invisible Mage Hand before he enters the Sleeping Giant, and keep it moving slightly in front and above his head.
Ryn raises his eyes, doing a quick survey of the terrain, looking for the best avenue of approach to the Manor while remaining undetected.
Perception: 19
Survival: 16
Ryn looks East and can see one obvious avenue of approach, a winding exposed single track track rises up to the old manor. An approach from any other direction would mean climbing a steep rocky cliff to get up to the raised position of the crumbling property.
Melaria clicks her tongue and nods her head in the direction of the sky. With that, the Dragon hops off her shoulder and soars into the air, staying within 100ft of her and scouts the area, looking for any signs that something might not be right. While her Dragon does this, Melaria stands still and her eyes get covered in a purple haze. ((She will also be deaf and won't respond when spoken to.))
Dragon Perception w/ Keen Senses ((17))
The dragon passes information back the Melaria indicating that the Manor house is more akin to a crumbling castle, than a house. It sit's atop a natural rise in the terrain, with a couple of very steep rocky faces surrounding the house on all sides that look all but impassable. A single winding track serves the old property. To the South of the Manor is a forest.
The dragon can see close enough to ascertain that the place looks to be in utter disrepair, with collapsed ceilings and walls. It doesn't notice anything out of the ordinary nor does it see any movement.
((Assumed it stayed quite high to get a complete aerial view of the place))
The haze around Melaria's eyes fade out and Melaria snaps out of her trance. She'll then report to the others what she's seen. "Guys, the place looks run down and I didn't see anyone guarding it. I think we'll be ok if we go up, so long as we're careful."
Tygron will head into the Sleeping Giant and study the crowd.
The Sleeping Giant looks run-down from the outside, when you are about 15 feet away the door opens and seven humans pile out and form a semi-circle in front of the door. Each holds a short sword and wear cheap leather armour, and while none of it matches they do all wear the same scarlet red cloak over their shoulders, some with the hoods up.
One steps forwards and looks at the party, and takes a sip from a tankard; "So this is the bunch of adventurers we've been hearing about. Look like a bunch of whelps to me. If you know what's best for you, you'll f*ck off. This is our town.". With that he lobs the tankard at Tygron. ((Could I get a dex check please Tygron)). The rest of the group bark with vicious laughter.
((I've assumed Melaria is there as well - but let me know if you wanted to do a more detailed look with the dragon, happy to run both))
((If no one here retaliates to that.)) Melaria will approach the guard, trying to look a little sensual, trying to de-escalate the situation. She runs a finger over the guards face and grins. "Oh come on sweetie, you know we don't want trouble here. Why dont you and your buddies leave for the day."
((And with that, she'll cast Suggestion, on the one that through the tankard. WIS save 13. If one of us retaliates, she won't do this.))
and...the tankard slams the dwarf in the face. In spite of the blow- and the beer spilling down his beard and chest, he takes a deep breath, lets it out, and says
“yer lucky I ain’t in the mood fer a fight. Mess wit me I don’t care. we’ve kilt O’er a dozen goblins in the last couple days so I be a bit tired o fightin.
Yer no threat to us, and we’re no threat to ye- if ye let us be.
We just be wantin to know about that old house up yonder. Ye be tellin us what ye knows or be on yer way.”
Tygron will use the help action for any persuasion or intimidate checks others want to do- hoping to avoid a fight.
Indio lets his pack slide from his shoulder and he drops it to the ground. He steps forward next to Tygron. "I'm in the mood for a fight," he offers. He points to the leader and advances a few steps. "You," he says, making the 'come on' gesture with his fingers, "Do you actually fight, little man, or do you just throw things at people and try to sound tough? Do you actually fight, little man, or do you make a big noise and then hide behind your friends?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
As the tankard collides with Tygron's face and Indio steps forward, Teo takes a step back. As they are distracted by the posturing, Teo looks over the seven Redbrands for any coin purses or other valuable items that they may have carelessly left visible on their persons.
Perception: 9
If there are any visible items of value, Teo will move his invisible Mage Hand into position to steal the easiest one to try to take. He won't make an attempt unless a fight begins.

Wisdom saving throw for the tankard chucker: 13
The redbrand that threw the tankard shakes his head as if to clear it, then looks at Melaria and the party scowling. "What you lot trying to do!" As he takes a half step back from Melaria.
17 ... The rest of the redbrands are to busy trying to look intimidating to notice any signs of Melaria casting suggestion.

The red cloaks are all hanging in such a way that you can't really see much more than the belt buckles on each of the redbrands.

Feeling a little skittish from the non-reaction from Tygron and the completely polar approaches from Melariaand Indio the Redbrand that has been talking steps back, draws his short sword and shouts "Let these jokers have it!"
((No map for this one but we can assume the following
- The redbrands are currently backed up against the front of the Sleeping Giant (on the North side of the road) - The party is to the South of the redbrands - To the East of the Sleeping Giant the path winds up to the manor and is exposed. - There are a couple of alleyways to the West you could duck down (30ft from where you are) - There is nowhere to hide on the road itself.))

The Redbrand on the right of the group, a female halfling, as you see it is the quickest to react. She rounds on Indio, attacking from his right handside, and slashes as she approaches once and then makes a quick jab at Indio's torso.
