Auric:
A golden-scaled dragonborn strides into the clearing and pulls a golden orb from his robes, stopping well short of the circle. He starts conducting a basic arcane ritual, understandable to those schooled in the way of magic as a Detect Magic spell. When he speaks to his companions, his words are stilted and complex, speech patterns from a far off land that sound rather odd in the Common tongue.
"Behold, the 'Circle of Thunder',"says Auric, "Beware the malignant inorganics bound to the base of yon scorched pine. I will endeavor to divine the arcane signatures which might reside in this locale."

There is a bright flash as another male figure steps into the clearing, into the sunlight, which reflects all the way across the clearing from the surface of what appears to be a large round mirror. As the gold dragonborn begins his ritual, this human male (his facial features are too perfect to be entirely human) doffs his shield and begins to brush out his golden shoulder-length hair. Chain mail is visible underneath an expensive-looking and fashionable set of crimson travelling robes, and a fine cloak draped stylishly over one shoulder billows dramatically in disproportion to the strength of the breeze. Presently, Hansel spies the figure breaking camp across the way, and first alerting his companions (Hey look, there's someone else here) he waves his hair brush high as he calls out: Ho there! Hello!

Slowly approaching the new arrivals is a dark Tiefling with feral yellow piercing eyes, wearing a quite worn long black coat, leading a mare black as the night behind him. His face carries several scars from previous battles giving him a particularly sinister look, but he gives the newcomers a small welcoming smile, seeming grimly calm and confident.
The Tiefling had travelled the northern parts of Sword Coast for some time now, earning his living as a monster hunter of sorts, and now he had been offered a hefty reward for disrupting a summoning of some sort of destructive force in this area, and coming upon the site of the black charred tree looming ominously over the desolate landscape had left him with little doubt he had found what he sought. Ever calm and meticulous, the dark Tiefling had set up camp to study the site before deciding how to best deal with it, and now others had arrived. They did not strike him as being bringers of destruction but rather those who would venture here to stop it. Most likely he had recieved unexpected allies in his endeavour but it was time to find out. His ever vigilant invisible familiar fluttering around above meanwhile keeps it's eyes open for threats.

"Greetings travellers, what brings you to this desolate place?" The dark Tiefling says in a calm and polite tone, looking between the golden-scaled dragonborn and the golden-haired human.

KD, a human woman with shrewd, analytical dark eyes, and short dreads steps into the clearing behind the others. At her side is a monkey, either armored entirely or completely mechanical, it's hard to tell at this distance. She pulls off her hood and looks around, eyes moving from the tree that Auric was studying, to the creepy dolls, to the other figures around this odd site. The monkey looks up at her expectantly, plainly ready to charge into battle, but she extends a patient hand that says "not yet."
Her eyes move to the rest of the scene, trying to spot things that are not so plain, and give herself a better understanding of how this tree came to be like this, what clues might lie around its base, and if there are factors or players in this that are not so obvious. If this were a crime scene, she was already putting together a layout and mental markers and tape.
(Apologies, crazy week. And tbh, I think I failed at providing/telling redshirt the post was ready 🤦♀️ Please forgive my blunders.)
Auric would quickly come to realize that he spoke a little too soon. They were on their way to the Circle of Thunder, however they still had a ways to go. Instead, the mage is able to conclude that there’s an aura of transmutation magic emanating from the tree and the ground around it. With his understanding of the nature of trees, that meant that the magic went down to it’s roots.
Meanwhile Hansel hails and yoohoo’s some ruggedly handsome dark men, enticing them to join the group. He’s met with a polite greeting from the tiefling.
KD counts ten twig dolls bound to the charred tree, all within easy reach. There appears to be something wrapped inside the dolls, however even from here, she can’t quite determine what it is without a hands on close examination.
Hansel extends a greeting hand for shaking, and inspects the tiefling from head to toe as he rambles on in good-natured reply, skipping quickly from one topic to another:
Oh, we are looking for the Circle of Thunder, whatever that is. I say, I do believe I have something that would serve well to cover up those unsightly scars. I'm not sure if this is the place we are looking for, but it seems we have found another ugly tree. I like your coat - it matches your... uh, horse - I did happen to notice a slight rent near the base though - would you like me to repair that for you? We just came from another place with an ugly tree, as a matter of fact - had to burn it down to stop it from attacking us.

Coming from the other side of the clearing comes a half elf. His auburn hair flowing past his shoulders. The hair and Grey leathers accentuating his tanned skin. Or maybe it was the white shirt that has clearly seen better days. He moves with studied grace as Grey eyes take everyone.
"Hail and well met traveller's. I may echo the prior question as you are the first people I've seen in days. Verr'iden is the name"
The golden dragonborn stands up from his ritual, his eyes glowing blue as he studies the tree. "Transmutation magic pervades the roots of this disfigured tree. Approaching closely is inadvisable,"he states. Turning to face the ones unfamiliar to him, he states, "I am Auric, practitioner of the weave."
He focuses more deeply on the magic he detects, trying to discern what spells might be involved or what magical effects are likely should the tree and dolls be disturbed.

"Would you mind terribly if I came along to this Circle of Thunder? Maybe I can be of assistance with whatever you intend to do when you reach it." He offers with a polite smile.
KD nods to Auric. "There are ten twig dolls attached to the tree. Perhaps we should burn them and this tree down as well? From afar? My curiosity is piqued but after the last encounter, it seems ill-advised."
The not-entirely human Hansel positively beams as the second newcomer joins the gathering, and when Nepharious introduces himself further. Oh, but we can! With Sune's blessings, we can all look better to each other than we do even to ourselves, and that just makes everyone else feel more confident, right? Hansel pauses and looks at the dark tiefling as if expecting to hear a confirmatory answer of agreement, but then adds: And even if you feel you can't look fabulous, I'm sure you have other forms of beauty about you.

"Does it seem to you that I lack confidence?" The dark Tiefling says with an amused smile. "So you are one of Lady Firehair's then, that figures." He says a bit dryly. He finishes, mimicking the thaumaturgical effect of the Sunite with a wink and a small smile.

I would be delighted to join you all for this circle of thunder thing. Would be a nice diversion" he laughs again at Nepharious' thunder
"OH this will be delightful" slightly more seriously. "Now what's with this tree"
KD's attention briefly moves from the creepy tree to the newcomers. "Nepharios, Verri'den, you can call me KD. Before we get to the circle of thunder, what can you tell me about this tree and the twig dolls attached to it? How did you find yourself here? I for one don't trust the tree at all. Oh, REALLY?Hansel asks Verr'idan with raised eyebrows. Well, it certainly is nice to be wanted, isn't it?Perhaps the blonde beau didn't quite catch the seaman's meaning... And the sea! How lovely! KD would soon come to realize that she's the only one who seems to have looked into or investigated the tree and it's dolls in any capacity at this point. While everyone seems to be heading to the same place, the Circle of Thunder, no one has yet to really share an opinion of what to do, if they should do, anything with this tree and it's ten dolls.
A hooded figure (Fae), silent like a shadow stands patiently next to Auric and slightly behind KD. Their cloak is ink black, simple yet intricate, trimmed in dark feathers. Holding an arm outstretched, a feminine hand blanketed in burn scars appears to be holding back a not so patient young half-elven woman (Nova). Popped up on her tip toes, she leans in as far as she can beyond the 'restraining' hand holding her to huff at the air. This woman's hair is a mix of dark and light, and her eyes striking heterochromia. "Smells like pig!" She blurts with a wiggle of her hips. Then, since she wasn't being allowed to get closer to the tree, she then side steps and slinks over to the new people, getting right up into their personal space to sniff at them to get to know them.
The dark Tiefling gives KD a polite nod and a small smile. "I haven't examined the tree yet myself, but I agree with your assessment, it doesn't seem a very trustworthy one."He says with a small smirk. "As for me, I just happened to pass by on my way to this circle of thunder where I intend to disrupt a summoning of some sort of destructive force. I guess I will have to earn your trust then human."He adds with another polite nod.
The dark Tiefling chuckles dryly at the comment of the naïve Sunite. "The sea can be beautiful alright, aswell as ferocious and unforgiving, and then there'll be pirates, dreadful ruthless pirates, ask Verr'idan and he'll tell you." He tells Hansel with a wink to Verr'idan.
As the dark Tiefling notices two more travellers he gives them both an intrigued look, giving the young half-elven woman an amused smile as she sniffs at him, his dark tail appearing from under his long black coat to sway playfully behind him.
A chuckle. "Ah yes the sea the sea. She can be a.very unforgiving mistress between the storms and monsters and the occasional well dressed pirate" a laugh and a wink to the telling.
He looks amusedly at the hooded figure "a pig? Like a live pig or are we talking bacon?"
