Uragum hems and haas as the others make off handed comments about "other more learned men." Like he was just some dumb Goliath beating his chest and scratching his back side. He stuffed it down and gritted his teeth. "I could go either way. While the library gives us less money, the good standing could mean better research connections for any future gigs. Like, someone asks to kill a dragon we can more easily go, 'Scribe find us out info on Blue Dragons' and the Sage be like, 'yes help our esteemed friend!' Time saved. On the other hand... money is nice too."
Ola was oblivious to Uragum's internal turmoil (she was comparing scholars with potential collections, after all) but added. "As Uragum said - a few more golds are nice, but reputation and connections cost much more." She glanced at Sylyra with a bit of surprise, he, in particular, would have to understand such things. "Not to mention, there is a chance, another group of cultists can buy it and then we, potentially, will endanger people again. So, it is two vs two. How do we decide? Flip a coin?"
Hex shrugged. "I'm not particularly attached to the idea to sell it, so if you wish to give it to the Lord Sage, that's fine with me. You both make good points."
"I would not be able to ensure any partial ownership, unfortunately. I would not take it from you without proper payment, and I would be remiss to begin its study only to have it given to another suitor before its properties are known," the Lord Sage adds.
OOC: Ready to advance when a decision has been made here. We're close to wrapping up this adventure, just need to figure out whether the relic is being sold to the Lord Sage or not before we continue.
It sounds like the party is pretty split/indecisive, so if someone needs to just make a roll to "flip a coin" to decide that may help us get there faster.
OOC: Removed the relic from Ola's inventory and added 50 gp to each character's inventory (50 gp reward + 150 gp payment for the relic split evenly).
A few of the library's attendants are summoned to carefully transport the relic to a private office of the Lord Sage while another returns with your payment. As the gold is distributed, the elderly half-elf thanks you once more, "You have done excellent work. I have much to peruse and much to study. You are welcome to utilize this library's resources should you find the need. Much of the knowledge here may be slightly outdated, but it is well-kept, and though we are not the great library at Candlekeep there is still much here to be gleaned."
OOC: With any final remarks to the Lord Sage, we are headed into 10 days of downtime. What would your characters like to do with this time?
The letter came the very next day with an elf, dressed in the colours of the House Ortellian. Despite the fake name, it seemed the word of Ola's activity reached the Quivering Forest and the grandmother did not ask but demanded her presence this instant.
No one ever said "no" to Faecyne Ortellian in Ola's memory and she was not going to be the first one to try. The break in the adventures allowed to settle the matter without such drastic measures too, at least Ola counted on it. And thus, by lunchtime (the messenger and escort was not inclined to wait) she said her goodbyes (only remarking that family matters demand her presence somewhere else for the next few days) and left, leaving the room in the Inn paid for two weeks in advance with the obvious hope to return soon.
As soon as the party had settled matters with the Lord Sage, Hex would slip away from the group and return to her room at the inm.
Once alone, she'll draw up a rough map of the temple, with notes detailing what each rooms looked like and contained as well as what they were likely used for. She'll also include the information Skovac revealed to the party about the history of the temple and the relic before. She'll then give her report, the map and notes to Chaab.
With official business done, Hex would like to have a conversation with Sylyra sometime during the week. She'll even try to soften him up a bit by dressing up and inviting him for dinner.
"So, I hope this doesn't come off the wrong way but are you alright? Not physically but like... emotionally. You seemed to have calmed down now but you looked pretty pissed off after we defeated Skovac. I've tried to think of why you'd be but I can't come up with a explanation myself, to be honest."
(What Hex spends the rest of the ten-day on will depend on how Sylyra and Chaab respond. Hope that's okay, just wanna get a bit of RP going haha.)
Sylyra did not reply. He did not bid Ola a farewell. The olive-skinned elf began to scowl at the blue-skinned elf, but then his face became inscrutable. With a lazy closing of his eyes, he turned his back on her and walked off in silence.
Chaab is thrilled with your report, going so far as to say it is "above and beyond our expectations". Over the next days, he meets with you again.
"You have sufficiently proven yourself to The Black Network. Now that our attention is being split toward the effort of building this base of operations in the region, we are in need of men and women with the rare skills that you possess. Your talents surpass those of the average initiate. Because of this, I am making you a Wolf of the Zhentarim. Your day-to-day responsibilities don't change, but their importance to the organization grows," he explains.
"First and foremost, we are cultivating a...beneficial relationship with the thieves' guild here. I've given your name to one of the Welcomers, a man named Glevith. We have a mutual problem that I believe you are tailor-made for. Your companions may be able to assist as well."
OOC: We can play this conversation with Glevith that takes place during this downtime in a private thread before the next adventure is spun up. Let me know if there is anything else you wish to do in this downtime.
DM, Sylyra needs gold. I need a feather, tuft of fur, and fish tail inside a gilded acorn worth at least 200 gp for a spell I'd like to use. He's been a bit on edge, and he's not against partaking in some unlawful behavior if the result will be padding his pocket. Are there opportunities? One idea I had was that since everything in his pockets remain on his person even while he is wild shaped, he might could do a little burgling. Turn into a lizard, enter a dwelling or business establishment, become an elf, pocket everything he wants, become a lizard, and leave. He has a little bit of history with the wealthier side of Phlan, so maybe there's an opportunity there? What do you think?
From what I can see with downtime activities, Pit fighting has the chance to be the most lucrative with the least "risk". That's why Uragum has been doing it. Alas, last downtime I rolled a bunch of poor rolls resulting in accusations of cheating, so I don't think Uragum would be able to do so. Sylyra probably can.
For Uragum, he'll spend the 100 gp to transfer the flame blade scroll to his spell book. Then I guess 50 gp for training on 10 days training towards proficiency in whatever tools you deem most suitable for crafting of magic items in the future.
Hex sighs in disappointment as Sylyra refuses to speak with her but she does not push futher, not wanting to anger the elf more than he seemingly already is.
Hex looks absolutely elated upon hearing her promotion to Wolf but then whinces as Chaab mentions the Welcomers. "We don't have a good reputation with them since we killed some of their people... but I'll do my best to get on their good side." Before going to meet with Glevith, she'd like to do a little bit of digging around to see what she can learn of the man.
There's not much Hex is seeking to do at the moment. She'll just keep up with her duties and do enough odd jobs to pay off living expenses.
OOC: Adventuring is always going to be the best way to earn coin. You have some options in downtime, but the good ones carry more risk. There's a chance when doing each activity of a complication occurring, which is mechanically what happened with the accusations against Uragum.
The main options for earning money during downtime:
Crime:
Resources. A character must spend one week and at least 25 gp gathering information on potential targets before committing the intended crime.
Resolution. The character must make a series of checks, with the DC for all the checks chosen by the character according to the amount of profit sought from the crime.
The chosen DC can be 10, 15, 20, or 25. Higher DC results in a higher yield of coin if the checks are successful.
Gambling:
Resources. This activity requires one workweek of effort plus a stake of at least 10 gp, to a maximum of 1,000 gp or more, as you see fit.
Resolution. The character must make a series of checks, with a DC determined at random based on the quality of the competition that the character runs into. Part of the risk of gambling is that one never knows who might end up sitting across the table.
Pit Fighting:
Resources. Engaging in this activity requires one workweek of effort from a character.
Resolution. The character must make a series of checks, with a DC determined at random based on the quality of the opposition that the character runs into. A big part of the challenge in pit fighting lies in the unknown nature of a character’s opponents.
Work:
When all else fails, an adventurer can turn to an honest trade to earn a living. This activity represents a character’s attempt to find temporary work, the quality and wages of which are difficult to predict.
Resources. Performing a job requires one workweek of effort.
Resolution. To determine how much money a character earns, the character makes an ability check

Sylyra shrugs one shoulder. "It sounds like our hands are tied." He falls back into his chair to wait.

"I vote, we sell it to the Lord Sage for the offered price plus an ongoing membership to the Library," Uragum responded.
Sylyra didn't want to, but feels they have to.
Hex is up to give it to the Lord Sage if Ola and Uragum want to.
Ola wants to.
