Durnham nods at Kotar’s words. “A wizard could very well animate these corpses. The problem is that these bodies are buried under rubble. If they were animated they would still be stuck under all that debris. I think we are safe from these two even if they do start moving.”
“That is good thinking though, about what animated these bodies. These two seem to have died from the crash but did not animate. So it is good reasoning that whoever left that note has been animating the bodies post crash. He likely left these two because they are half buried and would take a lot of work to free from the rubble.”
"Hmm, I would think if they were to rise they would have. It may take some time to do such a thing, but I admit I do not know. It might be best to torch them. But if they are already trapped in the rubble it likely makes little difference. I say we move on." Ressys says.
Brandon stops piling up broken furniture around the bodies. “There is no need to burn them then?” Both Durnhama and Ressys made sense in their arguments, the bodies were trapped in the rubble anyway. “That is probably good, the smoke could have caused trouble for us in these rooms. Let’s move on then.” Brandon readies his gear and moves onto the next room.
You move on, leaving the crushed bodies intact and pinned by the rubble. The last door unchecked lies at the end of the long corridor, heading west. It opens easily...
Frozen wind bites into your faces immediately. Water ebbs and flows through a large opening along the west wall of this room, which appears to be a ruined library. Rotting parchments and waterlogged tomes are spread everywhere, fallen from cracked stone shelves. Across the water you can see that another wing of the Salsvault has lost its west wall, and that crossing the icy water could provide access there.
Durnham is immediately dumbstruck. A Library? Containing lost knowledge from the Aeorians? He practically salivates at the shelves and the books and scrolls. His excitement is tempered only by his dismay at the state of the library and the damage done to the knowledge stored within.
”This… this is amazing… and horrific. All that knowledge! Those books and scrolls… so much lost…” He is clearly distracted and speaks to no one and everyone. “Help me… the shelves, the books… help me look… there must be something that survived… something we can save or salvage from this!”
His initial urge is to rush out and search the shelves but the cold and the water make him cautious.
Brandon gives an involuntary shiver as the cold wind blows through the ruined room and he eyes the water nervously. “I am not sure we should try to cross that, we will likely freeze to death. Maybe there is another path if we double back and go the way Orvo went last time. We will have to deal with the animated armor.”he shrugs like that is no big deal.
“Unless someone has a better way to cross that?”he asks the group. Looking at Durnham he adds “could Archimedes scout the rooms ahead?”
As they discuss their options, Brandon looks around the nearby shelves and parchment for anything that seems intact and useful. Perception: 9.

The dwarf looks at Brandon blankly a moment. “Hmmm? Archimedes?” He glances about the room again and looks at the water as Brandon’s words slowly filter through his mind. “Ah, yes of course. Sorry, these books and scrolls are distracting.”
At a thought Archimedes will fly around the room quietly above the water and scout about. If there is room for him to fly above and continue west he will slowly head in that direction looking for signs of danger, any paths that might be open, and any books or scroll cases or scrolls that might be salvageable.

Ressys looks out over the water studying it.
"I am not sure it is worth the risk to try and cross. There must be an alternate way around. Unless we find something worth while on the shelves I say we back track and find another way."
Brandon searches around for intact & useful relics but sees nothing that seems remotely salvageable - to the further dismay of Durnham, presumably.
Archimedes has keener eyes though, and spies a sealed scroll case bobbing among the ruined books. He manages to nudge it towards Durnham and the scroll case bobs towards the young wizard, agonisingly slowly, before arriving at the edge of the water in front of him.
At that point, Archimedes spots movement in the water. Something near the bottom, maybe 15ft down. Long, quick...
(Archimedes estimates that you can get over the wall to approach the far side of the facility, and clamber in when you get there)
Durnham, looking through the owl’s eyes, gives a warning “Be careful, there’s something in the water… and that water is pretty deep.” His eyes, cloudy while he sees via the familiar, return to their normal color as he regains his senses. He reaches down to snap up the scroll case from the water’s edge. “Winterwalker is right… I don’t think we should try to swim that. It’s incredibly cold, deep enough to drown us, and there’s something big and fast in there.”
”That wall over to the west though. It looks like we can climb over it.”
Durnham finds inside the scroll case two spell scrolls of dispel magic.
(The options are to brave the water and climb the wall to the west, or go back the way you came and head west from the entrance, into the room where Orvo says he encountered the animated armour)
Brandon eyes the wall and the water skeptically “I am still not sure we should try and cross that. And there is something living in it? Another thing to try to kill us I wager. I say we go back and deal with the animated armor, see if that path connects to the other side.” He looks to his companions for their thoughts.
"Perhaps it is some kind of beast that lives in the water. If we can convince it we mean no harm perhaps we can make the climb safely. Let me see what I can do."
Standing close to the water Ressys he casts Speak with Animals as a ritual. When he is done he calls out over the water.
"Creature in the water, we mean you no harm. We wish to pass but disturb your rest no more than that. With your permission may we pass, perhaps even have your assistance?"
The words are strange, a guttural odd inflection, not really words as Ressys calls out with the speech of animals.
When they found the underground pool Kotar was unfazed. His first thought was to simply cross it by swimming. A precipitated judgement for not only where his friends less adept on dealing with the weather but something lured on the water. I need to be more careful, he said with the voice of his mind.
“I was raised swimming on water this cold, but considering everything we saw on these ruins there can be more to the liquid than common melted ice. I would also like to avoid a battle there if we can.”He admitted looking at his friends. “Just, do any of you think any creature would be here by coincidence? I mean, maybe the presence of this guard means this is the right path and on the path subject, I do have a good maul to try bringing the thing down…”Assuming hammering a hole in the thing was even possible. The goliath would not be surprised if they found some construction made nigh indestructible through magic. The simple fact anything stood after Aeor’s fall was enough to make one think as much. “but the climbing idea would be faster and better. Question now is, how do we go about it? One climbs first and pull the others?”
Ressys conducts his ritual and begins to speak in a strange guttural tone that seems reminiscent of water passing through wet leather flaps. To your horror, amusement or surprise, a similar tone washes back from under the water.
@Ressys:
The low rumbling voice from under the water seems matter-of-fact as it says in reply to you "This is all mine. Anything in it is my food. If you enter, you are food"
“I’m not much of a climber… or a swimmer for that matter. I’d likely need help getting over that wall or swimming through this. But I’d be willing to try.” As Ressys begins speaking into the water, Durnham stands quietly watching the large Firbolg work attempt to communicate.
”Impressive” he whispers to himself. He raises an eye at the creature’s response, interested in what the conversation entails.
"The beast in the water says we may pass if we bring it enough food. Then it won't need to feed while we pass. We can bring the dead undead bodies and throw them in the water. This is our opportunity if this is the direction we want to go."
Brandon barks out a nervous laugh “And how will they know which is the food and which is us? Still, if this is the direction we want to go, there are bodies in the corridor and rooms back toward the beginning of the hall.” He slaps Kotar on the shoulder “Come friend, we will need your strong arms and back.”
