As Durnham mentions the idea that this could be one of Ferol Sal's failed experiments that went horribly wrong, Qidira starts wondering about the poor soul that could be stuck for an eternity in this space. Then thinks again about Orvo's location with her ring connection. Is he still near the entrance or behind this door?
As soon as Durnham bangs on the door and enquires as to the condition of the noise maker, the noises intensify. The door makes a cracking noise as something slams against it from the other side, followed by repeated pounding noises like heavy fists raining down on the stonework.
Qidira backs away quickly as the noises intensify and looks to the group feeling slightly sorry for whatever creature has found itself within that chamber but unsure if they can do anything except kill it. She keeps silent and follows with the others.
Durnham backs away from the door, looks at the others and shakes his head before whispering, “I think whatever is in there is beyond our help… best leave it… unless anyone is keen on putting… that,” and he makes vague gestures towards the door, “out of its misery?”
Qidira glances back at the door and tries to recall the times when opening the door went badly for her. Holding onto that thought, she moves forward after Ressys with a lingering corner of her eyeball watching the door as she goes.
Leaving the door closed and moving away from the feral noises behind it, you head north and open the stone door at the end of the corridor to find a room on the other side about 25ft by 20ft.
Pieces of rusty plate armor are scattered about this chamber amid the rubble of destroyed stone furniture. An anvil built into the floor stands in front of a cold furnace to the northwest. Across the room from the furnace, two humanoid feet stick out from a pile of rubble.
Two full suits of steel armor stand upright but empty in the middle of the chamber, their gleaming surfaces a stark contrast to the rusty pieces lying nearby.
Map (green circle indicates the location of the feet):
Qidira eyes the large suits of armor looking suspiciously unworn for the time they must have stood and tempts them a little by wandering into the room to kneel by the humanoid feet to inspect them.
@DM an unusual attempt at helping her partymates by causing a distraction with herself while not placing herself under an axe-fall or similar.
Brandon gives the door a second, wary glance, then follows Ressys and the others to the door to the north. As they enter, he takes in what appears to be an armorer’s workshop, eyes drawn to the two suits of armor in the room. “I think we found Orvo’s armor. Be on your guard”He looks at Durnham “If you have come up with any ideas, now is the time to try them.” As Qidira moves towards something in the rubble, Brandon tentatively approaches one of the suits of armor, careful to remain out of reach.
Durnham nods at Brandon and then reaches into his backpack to gather one of the scrolls of dispel magic from earlier. “If these are the armors we heard about, this scroll should take care of one of them. I just want to make sure before I cast the spell though… when you’re ready Kotar, let’s go see if they react to us.”
As Qidira and Brandon approach the suits, and Durnham prepares the scroll, the suits suddenly spring into life!
(We're going to roll initiative, but if Durnham intended to ready an action to use the scroll then I will allow this to occur before the first round. Please bear in mind that Dispel Magic may only have one target)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
As the armors spring to life… which came as little surprise to the forewarned party, time seems to slow as Durnham is struck by a sense of Deja Vu. He has seen this before… again his dreams share portents of future events. He reads the scroll and knows that he will be successful.
He studied the scroll, enchanting the words inscribed therein and targets one of the suits of armor. The reading is difficult but he is filled with confidence… he has seen this, he knows it will work. Portent spellcheck: 17 and unleashes the scroll’s dispel magic at the suit of armor.
Durnhamreads from the scroll and utters the arcane script written upon it. The parchment bursts into flames and disappears, just as the nearest suit of armour (Suit One) slumps in a heap.
(Kotar's turn. Suit one is unconscious and prone, so all melee attacks against it have advantage and are auto-crits)
“Perhaps one of Ferol Sal’s experiments didn’t go well and he sealed it away in there. I wonder though…”
And Durnham knocks upon the door loudly and yells into the door, “Hello!? Is there anyone alive in there?”

@Qidira; Definitely angry animal noises
